I hate to ruin a thread with any facts or anything... But here goes.

First off, it was an INCIDENT, not an accident or a crash.

The crew had a gear unsafe indication in the cockpit, so this was a mechanical problem that was known before the landing was attempted, not a sudden and unexpected gear collapse or the result of a "hard landing". They circled for nearly an hour, even doing a flyby of the tower, who reported the gear looked like it was extended (and verified by the FA who could see the gear in question through a window). All QRH procedures were complied with and an emergency was declared (passengers in brace position and all that) but eventually they had to land without knowing if the gear was locked... Apparently it wasn't!

The FAA was apparently happy with the way the crew handled the problem. I know the Captain personally and that individual is definitely one of the people that you'd want in the cockpit when this sort of problem occurs.

And sorry to all the oddsmakers, there was no female or GIA grad in the cockpit.

she went to Embry-Riddle and Gulfstream
Then she'd be way ahead of 75% of you losers. The first part of that would make her a better pilot, without any doubt. And the second part would make her a smart pilot. Which would again put her ahead of 75% of you Cow-poly Tech losers. Bash Gulfstream and Riddle all you want. And then cry me a river when you're still flying a B1900 C model while she is in ground school for JetBlue, Southwest, Airtran, FedEx or UPS. I've never seen such bitter second tier knobs in my life. You really are second level. Really.

This coming from someone who paid wayyyyyyyy too much to have Embry-Riddle on your diploma, and then too much to fly right seat in a 1900. You sound like the second tier loser to me. I hope you get those bill paid by age 60 dumbass.

Wow....hit a nerve, did we?

plus SHE would have the split tail hiring advantage--not to mention some loaded parents putting her through both of those programs...hey, is she single?

(notice I never asked what she looks like--wannabe man whores can't be too picky!)

I see idiot #2 on this thread has chimed in... and all this wisdom and wit with just 425 Riddle hours, meaning, no real experience. Second level... really, ya think so douchebag?? Or is this the continuing saga of IHaveAPension/Rhoid/TabExpressFO/TheGuat?

The sad thing is the eru/gia grad will spread her legs to get through her next right seat airline job and her lack of skill and experience will only show up at upgrade time. By then her reputation will precede her and she won't get anymore breaks and end up right seat locked never able to upgrade. And after that she'll be bitter and man hating blaming it all on sexist checkairmen rather than her own inadequacies. By then she'll only fly with junior capt.s and try and boss them around because by then she'll be on every senior capt.'s no fly list. Her looks faded the junior guys cringe having to fly with her which will ruin all their overnights. She'll also be bitter to the young hot flight attendants to out of sheer jealousy.Sound familiar name any airline and you'll find one there.

Hey Rhoid, I thought you were a newhire at UPS.

When did you make the shift to MD11 Captain at FedEx?

.

Sounds like all you tools are right for once.......it does sound like it was a female in the cockpit.

Both pilots were guys.

Oh yeah, I have a Riddle diploma, and look where I am. About to be on the bottom of the mighty Chautauqua’s seniority list.

I guess your reading comprehension has been stunted by all that loud heavy metal music. ;)

Nahhh, you don't fly anything big enough for my gigantic ego. ;)

Not to mention you fly during daylight hours, which is totally ridiculous and I'll have no part of it, sir!

Nah, you would need an A-380 for that...Just Kidding...You are one the best captains I have had the priv. to fly with.

Nice post about the incident. Glad to see someone can actually get the facts correct...

Once I find out who you are I'll be sure to thank you for that. :D

As usual, IPF has got it right. From the NTSB:

1. GENERAL
A. Definitions
(1) Aircraft accident:
An occurrence associated with the operation of an aircraft that:
• Takes place between the time the first person boards the aircraft with the intention of flight and the last person has disembarked
• Results in death or serious injury
• Causes substantial damage to the aircraft

Official exceptions to substantial damage are:

• Engine failure or damage limited to an engine
• Bent fairings or cowling
• Dented skin or small puncture holes in the skin or fabric
• Ground damage to rotor or propeller blades
• Damage to landing gear, wheels, brakes, tires, flaps, engine accessories, or wing tips

So it ain't a crash, and it ain't an accident. The crew did its job, the FAA gave its blessing and - most important - no one was hurt. What more do you want?

I say that IHaveAPension should bend his cowling around his own fairing and go puncture himself.

So IPF, have you left Shuttle or will we see you on the ReShuttleAuqua list?

I always said that Shuttle would get jets within a month of my leaving, and I was more or less correct. ;)

I still haven't received a "thank you" note from the union...!!
