Let's hear it guys, time to start some chatter on the union proposal at Airnet. Since the unofficial message board of the company won't less us discuss
'Union issues" let's talk about them here.
Who wants a union and who thinks its a bad idea?
Lets hear your thoughts right here right now.............

See if Fred R. is still willing to try to bring a union on the property, he tried in the early 90s to no avail. Mercer at the time said that if a union was brought in he would shut the doors before they ever got certified as the bargaining agent. Since you guys are now public maybe you will have better luck.

Well I guess letters were sent to all employees houses from the Teamsters union. They sent them all to their FAA registered address. Assuming enough are sent in, it will come to a vote. No telling what will happen.

The way they are cutting things around that place, I think it has a good chance of passing. They cut extra pay for pilots traveling about 6 months ago, that really made some people mad. They base locked all new pilots for a year, that stirred the pot a little more. The newest rumor is changing overtime pay rules, sounds like its gonna happen, and it is gonna affect a lot of people. When maintenace starts getting cut, its time to leave...

Go for it guys. You need and deserve it.

I, for one, haven't seen anything from the Teamsters show up in my mailbox. They are going to have a tough time getting a union in if they can't even get the cards to the pilots!

I'll second that. I'd be willing to vote if I had a card. Any idea on how I can get one?

If your interested, send me your email, Ill forward it to a friend who has a digital attachment, instead of the card. She can send it to you.

Or try...

happy voting

I saw the last letter from the company cautioning the pilots on bringing a union onto the property. With the changes in the pay structure over the last year a union is going to be the only thing to keep the company screwing the pilots more than they already are. Performance based pay...no more floater pay...possible change in overtime pay...reduced moving pay benefits...whats next???

With the possibility of a union coming aboard don't you think the company would start to change some things to keep us happy? If they want to keep the union away then why don't they make us want to stay. The fact of the matter is, is that people only come to work here unless they don't have the time for anyplace else or they can't seem to get an interview anyplace else (in most cases). The company needs to make this option attractive. But, for some reason they don't get that. Just my two cents.

this might be a dumb question, but.....why wouldn't airnet want a union?

I can think of many reasons why the company does not want a union, the main one being they would not be able to make the pilots take it up the sphincter like they have been lately.

But I have a feeling your talking about the pilots side....in the past most everyone was happy, but I think thats changed a lot. I wouldn't be suprised to see the vote pass or be really close.

Aren't the teamsters the ones doing such a great job for NetJets? You may want to get someone with less of a mob history to represent you...

Hmmm...not so my fellow Starchecker. People come here to avoid the low pay at the regionals, before they move on to the heavy metal. Sure there are those who come to build time to move to the regionals (pretty crazy move), and then there are those who come here to get their multi turbine PIC hours built up to move to somewhere else like SWA, Frontier or the likes much faster then those who took the regional path.

As far as the Union goes...I will not state any preference on a public board since most of you here know who i am and where i am based...I do not want to lose my job for voicing any opinions here. Some of you other Starcheckers might want to do the same.

While I have no cards in this game, I have friends at NetJets and have been reading the ample info and discontent with the teamsters on the frac page, wouldn’t a different union or in house union be a better option?

Teamsters info

Here is a good reason not to have the Teamsters. I was a dues paying Teamster's member and when my company went out of business, the only thing they did for me was take dues out of my last check. Watch out what you ask for because you might get it. Could it be the company is going through hard times, with the end of fly by night check shuttles coming to an end?

?

let me say this, and i probably shouldn't b/c i don't have much experience in the matter. if airnet is doin so bad as some of you say, then why are they hiring so many people? they can't be in that bad of shape! their company seems to be doin pretty well if they're buyin new challengers! im proud to say that i at least have an interview with them and if i do get the job, id be a proud employee.

Its not that the Company is doing bad, its that they seem to keep sticking it too the pilots....

They're hiring quite a bit because people have left to the Regionals, Fractionals, and even some to SWA. I also think that they are hoping the tremendous amount of new folks who are just happy to have a job will vote "no" to a union and keep it off the property.

I'd also be really careful with the Teamsters....what, Lakes hasn't had a contract for like 45 years or something!!

That's why I inserted "in most cases". I am the person you explained. I couldn't and didn't want to live off of 19 grand a year. I wanted to come to Airnet for that reason. But I suspect that with the way the industry is now with the regionals taking everyone they can get their hands on, most people have Airnet as a backup. Not everyone.

As for the union talk. I completely agree. We do need to be careful about what we say on a public forum. You never know when big brother might be watching.
