I don't know how to do a poll so I'll just pose the question.

Has anyone out there given any thought to doing away with the traditional airline pilot uniform and going to some type of flight suit? Something that looks nice while not making you look like a "Top Gun" wannabe. Seems to me it would be a lot more comfortable than the tie and hat.

HA HA HA HA

You are way too formal.

Do you wear your hat and tie when you fly? Hang up the hat, un-clip the tie.

Flight Suit?

You'll be more comfortable if you loosen your tie and/or buy a shirt that fits.

Ok, I will jump in on Jetstream's point of view.

With the crappy pay and work rules, I think doing away with the tie is A.O.K. don't know about a flight suit or "Bag" as the Air Force bubbas call it.

Something more comfortable would work. I am all for Blue Jeans and a T-shirt. I mean if LOW COST airlines is what they want, might as well look the part, heck our passengers sure don't "dress up" anymore.

Rant over...

So far it's only civilian background guys responding, so I'll put in my two bits as a former military pilot: a jump suit/flight suit for an airline pilot would look absolutely ridiculous. It wouldn't look professional; it would just look goofy.

And that is the whole point of our wearing uniforms in the first place. So we look professional. Too many people that get on airplanes are scared in the first place, and it certainly wouldn't help if they looked into the cockpit and saw a couple of guys in flightsuits, or jeans. Regardless of pay and or workrules, we are professionals, and we need to look the part.

smart people who used to monitor this board have all been hired by SWA.

what's left are complete idiots, fat guys, and ugly people who can't make it to a major due to inoperable physical/mental defects.

this is my last visit to this board, i quit...

Hat??? What hat? At SWA hats are optional and most guys don't wear them. Also a lot wear clip on ties and they come off when the door gets closed.

I actually saw a guy step out of the nastiest looking aircraft I've ever seen, I think it was a Casa, AKA a wannabe Shorts 360, and the dude was wearing a flight suit.

Are Casa's prone to bursting in flames or are they pulling a lot of G's?

Flight suits for airlines? Dude, put the crack pipe away.

Uhh...I see by clicking on your public profile that you joined this forum just 16 days ago. You sure do have a vast historical background from which to prognosticate. Thank you for enlightening us. By the way, if you respond to this, we'll all know that you didn't really quit.

Every time I try to get out, they keep pulling me back in!

I really miss the days when we could leave the cockpit door open. I used to throw on the red Dominos' Pizza cap and announce in a thick Japanese accent;
"3..2..1..Hold on, here we go!!!

How about those spandex space suits they wear on "Star Trek the Next Generation"?

They might look a little better on some pilots than others, but at least you'd get a chance to show em your camel toe.

Do you think any professional who wants to get paid 200,000 for only working 12 days a month wears a clip on tie and/or blue jeans?
