Hell the only thing worth changing between the open and closed door is loosing the tie.

More hassle to change twice, than to just wear the uniform.

I know UPS boys love their pajamas in flight.

I'll take the hassle. If I'm crossing an ocean, I'm doin' it in my sweats and a t-shirt. Can't beat it.

Where is all this slack attitude coming from. We are in the top .5% pay worldwide. It's not exactly uncomfortable to wear the uniform. We regularly do 14+ hour sectors. You get in the cockpit, tie and hat come off. Almost half the time we are in the bunk in our undies anyway. Is it really that bad? I'm really not trying to preach, but what happened to some pride and professionalism in the way you look. Sorry, just seems like there are some better things to whine about these days...

Well, for one there's nobody there to see or care how you look. The boxes don't care. If you want to admire yourself in the lav mirror then knock yourself out.

That is how you determine if you should care? If no one is looking... then why care?

If you don't care then we don't care.... something like that?

Wearing a uniform, hat, etc. is a subtle form of mind control. It subconsciously reminds you that you work for them (and conform for them) and not the other way around. They dictate how you dress and what thier work rules are. It represents their ownership of you essentially. Its a psychological mind game exerting control over you, ever so subliminaly.

They call the shots - not you.

Think about it.

THE MAN'S KEEPING ME DOWN!!!

FIGHT THE POWER!!!

On a serious note...

My only on the job injury at an airline came as a direct result of my hat. I was getting off the hotel van in ATL when I bumped my head on the door. The pin in my hat dug firmly into my scalp. In the time it took me to take my hat off and bring my hand to my head it started bleeding profusely. I was able to stop the bleeding before too long with some gauze and I had a head-ache for the rest of the night, but I was all right otherwise. If I'd have been going to the airport rather than the hotel the flight would have been delayed.

Hats are nice when for doing your preflight when it's raining though.

Ah Stifflers mom,

More glowing professionalism. Perhaps you should go back to your ipod and backpack. Also, I don't look at myself in the mirror in the lav, I already know how sexy I am. It's simply my opinion. Look at where we all fit in the big scheme of the world. Look at all of the advantages we have over others around the world. Look at how many people struggle all of their lives just to survive. Many of us are the most highly paid people on the planet, and the best we can come up with is that wearing a uniform is some form of mind control? It's not about how others see you, it's about how you see yourself. If you are happy in your sweats and t-shirt, then more power to you. I know how lucky I feel to be where I am, and that I'm very proud of what I do. What's the big deal about wearing a uniform?

FO: Are those your new Old Navy Fleece Sweats Capt.?

CA: ugh huh. With Old Navy's New Fleece Sport Sweats, I wear them how and when I want. It's my little way of sticking it to the Man.

SO: But you are The Man.

CA: That's right.

FO: So you're sticking it to yourself.

CA: maybe :erm:

SO: [mutters to panel..] what freaking tool
