why do people drop $7k to get a 737 type just to interview at southwest? If no one bought their type then southwest would have to change their hiring requirements. Yeah, the pay is different, but the principal is the same

I disagree. If I were you I wouldn't but the type unless you had the money. You think it's a bad thing for someone to buy the type and get hired at SWA? The funny thing is is that if you subtract the type rating amount from first year pay, you'll still make more than if you don't buy the type and go work somewhere else.

I think I'll take my chances and buy the type. And....they do it because they can. SWA isn't an airline no one wants to work for. If it was they wouldn't require it because no one would do it.

Market economy at its best.

hell ya i'd pay for the type. swa first year pay is bout 20k more than any legacy in a 737. it still comes out to be like 13k more that first year and their 2nd yr pay is better than legacy

for me the question would be do I want to fly 737 flying regional routes for the rest of my career?

what if you have a job but dont really do anything while you are there? Like for instance, you are supposed to be working but you dont get anything done at all?

Just curious, I have a friend that wanted to know......
