The following are the latest vacancy bids at UAL:

New Bids-
777
5 ORD CAP, 10 ORD F/O
15 SFO F/O
767
5 LAX CAP, 10 LAX F/O
5 SFO CAP, 10 SFO F/O

A320
3 DCA CAP, 5 DEN CAP, 2 LAX CAP

The good news is that there are 20 767 FO vacancies; they will likely be filled from 737 or A320 FOs. Hopefully recalls will start shortly.

Andy,

Great news for those dying to get out from underneath the LCC provisions of the contract, granted to them by the non-LCC pilots on the '03 negotiating commitee. Curious, how do you figure this shuffling of seats could lead to any recalls when everyone is flying or picking up to 95 hours?

Trojan,
From what I've read on the UAL compuserve board, most of the A320 and 737 reserve FOs are getting maxed out every month. I've also heard that some are starting to get very burned out and sick days have skyrocketed due to the 'grind' on the line. The company has really started clamping down on sick day usage, so there's probably quite a bit of truth behind that rumor.
If everyone's already maxed out on hours and there are vacancy bids, then they will have to replace those that move out of the A320 and 737.
If everyone's maxed out now, how are they going to be able to fly the summer schedule, when block hours increase without recalling any pilots?
Another rumor (that I heard from two independent sources) is that Tilton told some pilots that the last group of furloughees won't miss a paycheck. That would mean that recalls would have to start in April. ... but it's just a rumor, so we'll have to see what happens.
I'm currently ~1500 from recall, so I won't be affected by this for a LONG time, but I see the 767 vacancy bids as a VERY good sign.
Don't forget one of the pilot rules ... companies furlough and as soon as they're done furloughing, they start recalling.

Nice to hear that. Wonder what the AA situation is - are they going to be able to fly the summer schedules with current staffing?

They have trimmed back on STL operations significantly so they may still have a surplus that they're working off. I'll ask a couple of AMR furloughees that I work with on the status when I see them.
The good news is that Delta and Northwest seem to be starting recalls. I'm hoping to see USAirways start recalling ... they sound very short on crews.

Delta may be "forced" to recall soon due to the arbitrator's Force Mejeur 1 hearing that stated recalls will begin when we have 3 consecutive months of RPMs equal to pre-9-11 months. The RPMs include all of the extra DCI flying, MAC charters, etc....It is getting close----and if it doesn't happen soon, it probably will by Summer. Delta absolutely doesn't want this to happen---and they want us to increase the cap with the current pilots we have. We may also have a large retirement around May 1st---but the numbers there also are a bit confusing. I, myself, hope the recalls start sooner than later.

Bye Bye--General Lee;)

NWA is recalling but is scheduled to have LESS pilots on property by the end of 2004 vs. the beginning. Attrition.

We currently have around 7500 pilots on the property, with 1060 on furlough. We had over 10,300 or so pre-9-11. So, we have lost around 3000 pilots total--most to retirement.

Bye Bye--General Lee:rolleyes:

UAL had around 10,400 pre 9-11

I think we have around 7000 active now.

Thanks for all the number gents. It's amazing to see all those pilots out-of-service! Let's hope for a strong summer and keep the momentum going for all companies to begin recalls!

BRING 'EM BACK!!!

All for now, DLslug :D

DLslug,

I think you are a "swell" guy. Take care and I too hope the furloughs come back soon.

Bye Bye--General Lee:rolleyes: ;)

General or any other RPM trigger experts,
Is it a 3-month or 4-month rolling lookback? I thought it was 4-month. If it was 3-month, I think it would have happened for the Dec, Jan, Feb data compared to same period pre 9-11.

I am crushed...the General was wrong...he needs to overnight at a Holiday Inn Express. Get those calculators ready to rumble.

LOL! However, his number was close enough for government work.

Andy,
Here is why the LAX '67 bids were generated.

<As you know, there were some bids for Los Angeles on this last round. In talking with some of the people in WHQ, one of the reasons for the 5 767 Captain bids is due to the inability to build lines to the value desired. The company would like the line average to be in the mid 80 hour range, but due to the number of ID's that have all night returns from the islands, it is impossible to do. The average is in the high 70 range and the company has been building 5 more lines that it wants to. >

Once WHQ figures out the scheduling logistics, I bet there will be a surplus for 5 767 Captains. WHQ sure knows how to spend the money wisely (not).
And here is why I think the shuflling won't be bringing anyone back soon.

<There is also a surplus out, but only for 20 F/Os on the Airbus in Denver.>

You'd think with TED, they would be needing more 320 FOs out of DEN.
