Depends upon what level of managment you are in, there are a lot of managment guys at lower and mid levels paticuarily in maintenance who came up throught the ranks, been with the company 15+ years, no degree required. But the top guys all have degrees to understand accounting and budgets, finance, marketing, most have MBA's

Thanks for the link, Rez! You'd be surprised (or dismayed) at the number of union airline pilots who don't realize their contracts are governed by the RLA.

Yes! And many pilots, to which you have suggested in other posts, think ALPA is the limitation when in actuality it is the Code Of Federal Regulation via the RLA. If we want/need to make changes it is thru our gov't elected reps and legislation.

Hey...I have to ask....is a college degree required to be management? ;)

Yes! You must have a college degree to be a part of upper management*.

*Definitions:

"College" - either an institution of higher learning (ie: not the Air Force Academy); fully accreditied....or a more significant approximation: Real life decision-making and leadership experience recognizable by others.

"degree" - sufficient experience to gain the respect of those you manage.

"required" - Not at all airlines. Many manager-hirers still cling to the belief that cannibals are the best choice, since the manager-hirers themselves are only interested in short-term results.
