Does United have any overseas bases. I was reading an article on how United is spending$$$ relocating their employees due to base closures. Examples cited were Taiwan and Chile and it went on to say that pilots and FA's from these bases are being relocated.

I was under the impression that all of Uniteds Bases are within the U.S.

Since we are on the UAL thread - any news of the recovery? They have posted an opening for a brand manager for their LCC - so I guess they are giving it another try (the LCC I mean)

Plus, the F/As from the regional bases, were limited in what they could fly - and they couldnt fly any domestic US city pairs/

The latest contract at United does allow for foriegn domicles for pilots, with NO restrictions. When I saw that slipped in to the contract, I figured that was a harbinger of things to come. There was little discussion amongst the ranks about foriegn domicles, when the contract came out, as everyone was focused on the pay and hours issues. I doubt if most UAL pilots even know that the company could open a base in Timbuktu tomorrow if they wanted to.

Yes, the Honolulu domicle is officially closed, and all pilots transferred out, as of Oct. 1.

Does united have to abide by the contract even though they are in Chp 11?

Yes. Will they? Probably not. But then most carriers don't, especially concerning "new" contracts. (Or new ammendments to old contracts.)
The general operating procedure is for the company to interpret a contract how they want to interpret it, and then let the pilot group submit their grievances.

Bottom line. The contract is still in effect until the BK judge vacates it. The ammended United Pilot's contract is still in place.
