A lot of rumors going around about what yeargroups have been furloughed at UAL.

Does anyone KNOW the Date of Hire of the most recent furloughee at UAL?

Thank you.

I was talking to a buddy of mine who is a Nov 99 DOH furloughee, and he said 3/98 is the most junior DOH right now at UAL...

Not yet.

The March of 98 number is a little off, but wait until next spring and it will probably be correct. With the recently announced furlough of 113 more on August 30th, 2003 the most senior furloughed person will have a hire date of May 3, 1999. The company plans to furlough 80-100 a month through next spring. This will bring the total furloughed at United to somewhere around 2200-2300 and the most senior furloughed person at that point would have a hire date of March 1998.

With over 1800 furloughed at USAirways, More than 2000 at American (and still increasing to I don't know what number, maybe 3000), over 1000 at NWA by the end of this year, 600 at Continental (plus the recent delay of 737s and maybe 757 deliveries until later this decade), and 1300 at Delta it is safe to say the big six won't be hiring this decade anyway.

Here's some more interesting stuff - about 25% of the UAL folks getting furloughed are already on a leave of absence or military leave. United had roughly 17 pilots per airplane (including engineers which are all gone) in Sep 2001 and will have roughly 11/plane by next year. This ratio is alot more like the LCCs. Counting the over 60 year old engineers and retirements that will be more than 3000 gone since Oct 01. Not counting the 35 to 40% paycut most took, cutting these 3000 jobs saves around 350million per year.

From all the posts on this thread, the case is well established that there will be very little if any hiring at AA, DAL, NWA, USAIR, Continental, in this decade.

How soon will it be that a pilot with 1000 pic turbine (3000 total)will get hired on with JB, FEDEX, UPS, ABEX, Southwest?

Check Six
