SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- UAL Corp.'s United Airlines and its machinists union on Tuesday afternoon reached an agreement in principle in federal bankruptcy court, according to media reports. A formal contract between the bankrupt carrier and the International Association of Machinists will reportedly be presented on June 17. The tentative deal comes hours after members of United Airlines' mechanics union ratified a scaled-down, five-year labor contract, averting a possible strike by 7,000 workers.
