NEW YORK (Reuters) - United Airlines (UAUA.O) said on Friday it raised fares on most U.S. domestic flights by up to $10 roundtrip to offset higher fuel costs.
"We must be able to pass commodity costs onto customers just like other industries do," said United spokeswoman Robin Urbanski.
Most domestic routes are affected except markets were it competes head to head with low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines (LUV.N), she said.
Oil prices hit record levels earlier this week.

Does anyone think that airlines raising fares to AT LEAST break even is a good idea?

Guess that means United pilots career expectations just went up by $10 per round trip over CAL pilots.

The problem is, nobody ever sticks with them. I give it 3 days, then you'll see them print that they "took it back!" (Kinda like Prater's famous quote)

They should say they are going to hire thousands of pilots next year and charge say $500. for the new improved scantron!! Cut Miss Stuckey's pay in half and pocket the rest. UAs '08 profits would soar!!
