With almost 28 years of safety and flight operations experience, Quiello was most recently vice president of safety for Delta and at United will be responsible for managing all aspects of corporate safety, security, environment and regulatory compliance, and will oversee United's corporate emergency response programs and internal evaluation programs. He succeeds Bill Yantiss, who after almost 20 years with United is retiring, having held a variety of senior positions within the safety division, including a significant role in implementing United's industry-leading Flight Operations Quality Assurance program and Aviation Safety Action programs.

Throughout Quiello's career at Delta, he served in several safety and flight operations roles and currently serves on the Air Transport Association Safety Committee and on the Board of Governors of the Flight Safety Foundation. He has held the role of chief technical pilot, chief pilot at New York's LaGuardia and Kennedy airports and director of fleets. He was qualified as a captain on various aircraft, including the McDonnell Douglas 88, Boeing 757, Boeing 767 and Boeing 777. Quiello is a former U.S. Marine Corps officer and a graduate of the U.S. Navy Flight School.

Mounsey, who joins United after a 20-year career at Pratt & Whitney, will be responsible for engines, components and airframe and facilities maintenance at United's San Francisco Maintenance Center, as well as oversight for maintenance performed by third-party maintenance providers. Mounsey was most recently general manager of Pratt & Whitney's world-class and largest engine overhaul center in Cheshire, Conn., responsible for the repair and overhaul of engines for more than 30 airlines. He is also a recognized leader and passionate advocate of continuous improvement, lean manufacturing and effective visual factory tools and practices.

"Captain Quiello brings to United a depth of experience that will build on our commitment to integrate safety into every aspect of what we do, and we also look forward to Mark joining our leadership team in San Francisco with his eight years of experience running world-class engine maintenance operations," said John Tague, executive vice president and chief operating officer. "United is recognized within the industry for our work on safety, and we thank Bill for his leadership and commitment to implementing and sharing best practices and wish him well in his retirement."

Quiello will report to John Tague and Mounsey will report to Jim Keenan, senior vice president - Maintenance. Both appointments are effective Jan. 12.

Care to bet whether or not he gives a sh!t? He's there for the $$$$. His job is not to put any "safety hurdles" in the way of cost cutting. Betcha his predecessor reached his limit on that issue. Just an educated guess.

Welcome aboard Capt. Rubber Stamp.

You are all full of Bullsh!t ....

Michael is an outstanding captain and a GREAT safety guy. Whether in the LGA crew lounge or the ATL puzzle palace, Michael has represented front line folks well (all front line folks, not just pilots). I wish him best. He was SCREWED by the new Delta (Northwest).

Bob

Bob ps: He was a "buddy" of Dave Bushy NOT Kolshak. He was a Kolshak thorn in the side.

Disregard Bobby...

He knows nothing of what he speaks...

Quiello spent his time at Delta watching out for Mike Quiello.....

After one of our Captains turned back a Tokyo bound MD11 over crew rest issues (long story) ....Mike said in the WSJ...""We trust our pilots implicitly, unless they give us reason not to."

Good luck UAL people.....all the pilot-haters are inbound....

Exactly Bill, I was a new captain on the 727 in LGA when he showed up (or should I say his arse) as the shuttle chief pilot. Mike Quiello had only one thing on his mind-HIMSELF!!!!

Bob ps: He was a "buddy" of Dave Bushy NOT Kolshak. He was a Kolshak thorn in the side.

Yeah, right. Like he'd even have been CONSIDERED for this if he was anti-Kolshak. Ex-Delta, ex-Marine....this guy has "Kolshak lackey" written all over him.

Another day, another VP...or two...
