Is it possible for a private pilot ASEL to get a type rating in a Learjet or any other aircraft that requires a type?

If you did your multi at the same time as the type it should be doable

Private type rating

I agree. What a way to earn your multi!

Holders of Private certificates with type ratings are rare, but not that unusual. John Travolta with his B707 type (he may have a couple of others - I don't recall offhand which) and the late Yankees catcher Thurman Munson and his Citation type are two that come to mind.

A guy I used to fly with did his multi in a Citation. He knew a guy who had one, and when that guy heard what he was going to pay to get his multi, he said " I'll do it in my Citation for that price". So he got his type for the Citation on his multi ride.

Not a bad deal, and makes for a great bar story.

So let's see....if i had enough money to buy my own 747, i could get my multi in it and fly it VFR under 18,000' without talking to anyone and just call the tower when want to land. Who will be the first to do that?

Not to "hijack" this thread but my curiousity is on the rise-

I don't recall offhand which) and the late Yankees catcher Thurman Munson and his Citation type are two that come to mind.

Anyone know why the co-pilot came under pressure after this crash.?? I have heard various stories from the "old timers".. Any details would be appreciated since I am not overly familiar with him or his training at the time of the crash. He is now supposebly a FAA inspector and doesn't have alot of friends from what I have heard.

Travoltia is not PIC on the 707 it is a big misconception of most people that see these stars flying there own airplane is that they are actually professional pilots who know anything at all. I worked with one for years and to his friends would brag that he was a big jet captain however in private he couldn't fly his way out of a box and new it.

More along the thread subject...

Are there any single engine airplanes that require a type rating?

I recall hearing something through the mill, that now, at least at Flight Safety, they require a commercial, don't know about instrument, to go for a type. They also require some minimum times - total, PIC, etc to qualify for their classed. Again, this is just rumor, but worth looking into.

As far as Travolta - he can't fly his way out of a box, and he has got some serious restrictions on his certificate these days, and the more regs he violates, the harder time he is having finding pilots to fly for him.

what can you do with it?

suppose you have a few thousand bucks to spare and go out and get that type rating. what kind of opportunities do you think will open up? or are you simply curious?

anyone else has somehting to add.....
