Seriously, how many jobs do people pay to sit in a seat? Only PFT should be college. Maybe corporations should really look at this. I mean, if you want the corner office you gotta work for dirt and pay $5,000.

I think everyone should stop paying for written exams, too. After all, we don't even get to write anymore. All that money for multiple-choice computer tests?!?! It's a travesty, I say!

News Flash! You don't have to pay for a 737 type if you already have one. If you currently work for Frontier, as your avatar suggests, you can do exactly what the Captain I flew with 2 weeks ago did. He was a Captain at Frontier before he came to Southwest. So upgrade to 737 Captain and let Frontier pay for it. Have you not figured this out yet?

Who would they be paying $5000 too? Also, and I'll assume we're talking about SWA, could you clarify your "work for dirt" statement. You work for Frontier, right?

I don't get why these guys go on and on about this. No one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to get a 737 type.

We're not the only airline in the world. If you don't want to get a type, then don't apply to us. You won't hurt our feelings.

Good post and fortunately only one major airline requires this. You have many options out there, stay at Frontier and let them pay for your type once you upgrade. I see where you are coming from and I am in agreement with you, thankfully only one airline out there requires you to do this.

I sat on an engineer chair for 10 yrs after paying over 60K. Everyone around me did too.

What about trade schools. Should they be free?
What about dancing lessons?
What about piano lessons?
What about flying lessons? Flying is PFT unless you went through the military route.


Competition is fierce to interview at SWA. 4 year degree 2300 T PIC, clean record and I'll probably have a much longer wait. At least there are people like you who make it a little bit easier for folks like me, thank GOD!.
To be honest, why can't every other pilot think like you and refuse to get typed making me more competitive.
Do me a favor and please, spread the Gospel! Give you a pennie for every soul you convert...

Im not sure this will make you feel better but I didnt pay for my 737 type. In fact, the federal government did through a program called Workforce Investment Act. Yeah, thats right, your federal tax dollars at work!!!

PFT ? SWA started asking for a 737 type back in the 70's.This cut the fail rate down to almost zero.At that time a guy that failed out of training was a big cost that they wanted to elminate.Remember they knew what everything cost down to the penny when they started.Thats how they got where they are today.

After being jaded on flying pax for the last couple of years, I came to the conclusion that when I get competetive, I want to go the FDX/UPS route. After hearing all the things about SWA, now I want to go there more than I ever did before. Will start saving for the 737 type soon. Does this mean I'm bringing down the industry or lowering the bar? If so I'll see you at the bar. (Hopefully in DAL 'home')
