2 Pakistanis arrested at Sea-Tac; one man's name on terror list

Two Pakistani men are being held in Seattle after an airline employee at
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport found one of their names on a
terrorism-related no-fly list Saturday night.

One of the men, 36, carrying a British Columbia driver's license, paid
cash for a one-way ticket to New York's John F. Kennedy International
Airport.

********After the airline employee called 911, **********

the man left the counter, abandoning his ticket.

The other man, 29, who had a New York driver's license, also paid cash for
a one-way ticket to Kennedy Airport on a different airline, police reports
show.

Port police detained both men, then turned them over to the FBI. They are
being held on immigration violations as part of a growing international
investigation being conducted by the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force and
the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (BICE).

"We are aware of the situation," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd
Greenberg, a counter-terrorism prosecutor in Seattle. "We are expending
all available resources toward the investigation."

The two men both were using Pakistani passports and reportedly were seen
together at the airport earlier in the evening, law-enforcement sources
said.

After their arrests, the men told investigators they paid to be smuggled
into Blaine from Canada last month, two sources said.

Both men are being held for investigation of administrative immigration
violations. No criminal charges have been filed.

"There are questions about whether they are in the country legally," said
BICE spokesman Michael Milne. "We want to know how they entered the
country and what they're doing here."

The men, whose names have not been released, were arrested about 10 p.m.
Saturday on the ticketing level after an

*****American Airlines employee and a ticket agent from another major
airline*****

became suspicious and ran the men's names through the Transportation
Security Administration's (TSA) no-fly database of suspected terrorists.

Since the Sept. 11, 2001, hijackings, airlines have routinely been running
security checks on passengers who purchase one-way tickets or use cash.
Once the identity of one of the men is confirmed, "this is going to turn
into a big deal," a federal source said.

"This time it sounds like (the list) really worked," said Brian Jenkins, a
terrorism expert and senior adviser to the Rand Corp. in Santa Monica,
Calif. "Hopefully, that makes up for the times that people were
irritated."

It is unclear whether the men had luggage. "They had very little on them,"
said one law-enforcement source.

Canadian officials have told federal investigators here that one of the
men was in Canada legally until they found out he possessed an altered
Pakistani passport.

"Of course, you wonder about these guys," Jenkins said. "They're not
particularly clever, coming to the airport to buy one-way tickets and to
pay cash."
======================================================

OK...have we published it enough yet that buying a one way ticket for cash
just might attract attention? Are these terrorists so dumb they can't get
it yet? Maybe the news media could stress it a bit more as a social
service to make sure Ossama and the boys really, really get it?

And how nice to know that TWO YEARS after 9/11 we have installed systems
at the airport to report security problems -- CALL 911!!! How
appropriate. How sick. No way to better contact airport security. TSA?
Oops, they only inspect and harass. No arrest authority. They don't
chase and hold. They just flush out the grannies and let the real
security do their thing. Call 911 and hope the line isn't busy.
Something to remember next time you need help at an airport....

Immigration violations? Legally in Canada UNTIL FOUND TO HAVE AN ALTERED
PASSPORT! And then they get to walk around until they can arrange to be
smuggled into the US??? Not even a mention of the name to us by our
Canadian friends that they found a Pakistani with an altered passport who
then became an illegal in Canada! Heck, we might have looked at a list of
terrorists and seen if the name was there....ya think?"

Told investigators they paid to be smuggled into the US last month...but
it's only an INVESTIGATION OF IMMIGRATION VIOLATIONS??? Gee, I wonder
what the investigation will find out? Only time will tell. In other
news, there are questions whether a confess serial killer has done
anything wrong.........ARGH!

American Airlines employee AND ticket agent FROM ANOTHER AIRLINE.....Let's
see, they got nabbed trying to BUY A TICKET. Any bets the AIRLINE
EMPLOYEE who called it in was the TICKET AGENT? Gotta wonder who the AA
employee was and when they got involved. I recall TICKET AGENTS are the
ones who sell tickets. Makes ya wonder about how intense our (AMR's)
security checks are for this stuff.....

Yup, looks like the list really worked this time....wonder how they got
from Pakistan to Canada. No matter....all the mindless checks and insults
on those NOT ON THE LIST, have been made up for -- PLUS WE GET TO STRESS
TO THE WORLD THAT ****WE GOT THIS LIST!!!!! DON'T BUY ONE WAY TICKETS FOR
CASH OR WE WILL MATCH YOUR NAME TO OUR LIST!!!!!******* Did I mention
ARGH?

I love the last paragraph.....could we also apply it to the speaker and
those who publish all this info? Yes.

We are on our own out there......

Fraternally,

CrewDog Russ -- don't be a pointer for a hunter who can't shoot straight...

TSA is so busy making us pilots take our shoes off and laptops out that they don't have time to identify terrorists ;)

A-rabs?

Perhaps you should recheck your geography.

And, if you care, we (the US) recently alotted millions more in financial aid to Pakistan.....even though we know they have terrorist ties. Curious isn't it.

I think it ridiculous to send more money to Pakistan, for their so called cooperation in the war on terror. I would nuke em all just for genreral purposes. As for me checking my geography; you are correct. Technically they are not Arabs. Howerver "A-rab", is a general term I use for any rag head wearing Muslim. Political correctness is not my strongest attribute.

"Nuke their ass, take their gas"

Let the circle of hate continue. Dissapointing that anyone still have attitudes like your own. Imagine if others considered people like yourself in general terms 'american' even though hate filled people are the clear minority in the US and the world. I would hope you could find some positive spin on your "generalizations" rather than spewing hate and mindless rhetoric.

dixieflyer, let me ask you about what you think of Blacks, Asians, and Latinos. I'm just courious.

Ahhhh Come on! Are you serious? If those people didn't give us reason to hate them and anything that can be associated with them, then you might have a point. I don't understand you people.

"Those People"

That is my point. You CAN NOT generalize a whole population. If you have seen the world you would know that the vast majority is good.....always there has been and will be evil....lets not forget who was responsible for the second worse case of Terrorism in this country. If you can't see beyond the minority we will never stop killing each other.

I don't think we should generalize here, but who are the ones that want to kill every American? Young, Male, militant fringe Muslims, that's who. They aren't the only ones either, but let's not kid ourselves, that's who we must protect ourselves against. PC Bull$hit aside, we need to profile the hell out of those who we know are the perps. If this offends the pinko folks (libs) so what? Get over it. It would suck to be the ones that are profiled all the time, especially if you have nothing to hide, but get over it. We shouldn't let PC motives direct our national security.

Is it just the whiny, PC liberals that don't notice this whole connection between Middle Eastern men and terrorism? We need a brutal policy. For example, we make it known that if there is a terrorist action against this country we will nuke the capital of their homeland. They come from Saudi Arabia, Sorry Riyadh you don't exist any more. Sure they would all hate us, but they would also fear us. What suicide bomber would blow himself up if he knew his actions would evaporate a million people from his hometown? Look at Japan, they got front row seats to the last show and they haven't screwed with us since. But alas, its just a dream. The liberals would never consider an effective solution to terrorism. They'd just rather just shower our enemies with love and hope they love us back. Whatever. Nuke em.

You CAN NOT generalize a whole population.

You can't? How about when a whole population of people hate us so much that they would do what they did (and God knows what they would like to do)? I don't care if I hurt anyone’s feelings the reality is that a whole population of people exist that would do anything to ether see us convert to Islam or be killed. It's there fault that they got a bad rap. Birds of feather do flock together. Just because some jacka$$ develops a meaningless religion and the only converts he can get is by making people submit to the sword, doesn't mean the entire world (including the USA) should tolerate it in terms of being political correct. It's not going to kill anyone to stare a little longer, but it may kill someone if you don't. I agree, it is time to see past the minority, there is a majority out there that have declared themselves our enemies.

That would be a huge strategic mistake. If we were to make such a guaranty, then all of Saudi Arabia's enemies would line up to attack us and make it look like Saudis did it. Arabs would try to attack us and make it look like Israeli extermists did it. Indians would attack us and make it look like Pakistanis did it. We would then mistakenly nuke whomever we thought attacked us. If anything, such a policy would encourage attacks.

Look, lumping all so-called "ragheads" into one group and brutalizing makes little sense if the goal is to increase our security at home and in the Middle East. The fact is, they control the oil and we need it. Unless you want to wake up and find gas prices at $15/gal. then you better get used to the idea of working with these people. Also, they're NOT all the same. The second we start abandoning our Arab allies and bullying them all around is the second the s**t really hits the fan and the extremists get an even larger foothold there. We need to help the good Muslims beat out the bad Muslims in the fight for control of Arab-Muslim culture. Imagine if we had the chance to stomp out Nazism in Germany in 1931, before they really became powerful. We have a chance to do that now with Muslim extremism.

Increased security for persons of Arab descent (or appearance) will be a fact of life for a while. However, that doesn't mean that we get to turn our brains off and just treat all Arabs like scum. It's not about being "PC", it's about not burning bridges with people whose hearts and minds we need to reach.

We have been informed that the Arabs do not like to be
called "towel heads" or "rag heads". The item they wear on their heads is
actually a small sheet.

So from now on please call them "little sheet
heads.":D

Thank you for your support!

Let's see, what country did Timothy McVeigh come from again.....?

Sorry, Washington D.C., nothing personal, just policy, ya know...

Arab's

Let's face it, our country could save alot of grief by profiling Arab's that have no real longevity here in the states. I'm not saying to hassle some guy that has kids and a wife, and has been in the country for decades. It just really suprises me that the 911 scumbags were not questioned nor detained at some point during their tenure here in the States. I know alot of people will disagree, but what happens to the opinon of the average American if (when) the terrorists carry out another attack? And your neighbor dies, or how about your grandchild? Shall we profile? I think so.

For those that will accuse me of being a bigot or a racist, this is the farthest from the truth. Times are changing, we need to protect our own and not be so concerned about pissing someone off because they had to do a full security check. Sorry about your luck!!!

Flame on Baby!!

dkwid--- What if your child was in one of the towers? Would you still have the attitude you have now? Let's not forget the fellow American's that died a horrible death in those towers. You need to think about what we have here and what we are trying to protect.

Contactapp--- Your on the wrong page, wake up and catch up with the rest of the class.

It was only a matter of time before someone tried to equate McVeigh and the white males with the plight of Muslim extremists. Not even the same sport.

This is why I think becoming an FFDO is a professional and patriotic duty. Anybody who laughs the program off as cowboyish better join the real world. These people are out to kill every last one of us. If the feds are willing to let me carry a gun you can dam* well believe I'm going to carry one.

McVeigh is dead, as he should be. As should anyone who commits a terrorist act. I was responding to someone who said we should nuke every country where the terrorists come from.
