I'm in the Chicagoland area. I'm looking for a twin to do my training in besides a Travel Air or Seminole. I'm too tall to fit in the Travel Air, and the D.E. I have used all this time, has never given a ride in the Seminole.
Anyone know of another twin in the area?
 
Check out Palwaukee. Place called Great Bear Aviation has a Cougar... Windy City Flyers has a pair of Barons and I think a Duchess. Airways has a Geronimo.. Palwaukee Wings had a Duchess as of last week but I hear it is up for sale and not being flown now, not positive on that though.
 
In the Cougar the seat is not adjustable for height..no Aztec's in the area?

Yes, but the one at DuPage is about to take a dump. The instructors there told me not to even bother, there is so many problems with it.
The other ones I found, the seat doesn't move. So I'm back at square one, with not being able to fit in it.

I rode up to MSN and back in the back seat of that thing once... got a good burger in town too, wish I could remember the name of the place. Lots of aviation stuff up all over the walls and hanging from the ceiling.

Did you try asking the DE what he's qualified to give multi rides in, and what he might recommend?

I'm 6' 7 280lbs. My biggest problem is my legs being able to fit. I'm just going to head to ATP and do it there. The D.E I use is booked up for a quiote a while. He's a chief pilot for a cooperate place out of PWK.

Actually a Geronimo is an Apache with 180HP engines. The standard Apache had 150HP engines, and the older Aztecs had 250HP engines.

You are mistaken :)

Actually a Geronimo is an Apache with 180 horse engines instead of the 160's or 150's. Also had a nose mod, wing tips and gear door changes..............It still couldn't get out of its own way but it looked better anyhow!!

Don't ask me how I know so much about Apaches..........you would think I used to own one or something!!!!!! (averting eyecontact, hanging my head in shame...) Actually it was a great plane for x-countrys if you wanted to haul a big load in comfort!!!!..........while being passed by 172 SP's.

The name of the place is Dotty Dumpling's Dowery. mmmm.....
 
The Cougar will have the legroom, but at 6'1" I have to slouch a bit because the headband of my headset hits the ceiling. I can't imagine trying to cram another 6 inches of height into that thing.
 
geronimo is at Waukegan Wings

I fly the geronimo that used to be at Airway Flight Services at Palwaukee. It was on a lease back and the owner was not happy with Airway -- he moved it to Waukegan. After joining the club, you'll pay $205/hr dual. My instructor is about 6'6 and he fits - the seats are adjustable.

And it is an Apache conversion - it has the 180hp engines - flies great, like a pick up truck.

Also, I could be mistaken, but I think Windy City Flyers only has a Seminole - and they told me that would going down for 8 weeks for engine overhauls, other maintenance, etc. If they have Barons, I think they're charging big $$$ to fly them.

PM me if you want more info about the geronimo or Waukegan Wings (I'm close to my commercial checkride, so I know the airplane inside and out - or at least i think : )
