Trip to MBPV coming up. Anybody got any insights? Hotels, food, things to do? Job related info re customs, FBO, etc would be appreciated.

The FBO there is like going to Nassau. Customs is there and the people are very helpful. Nothing to worry about. Stay somewhere on Grace Bay. I stay @ the Comfort Suites. Its certainly nice enough if you dont have to stay right on the beach. They have an access road to the beach though. It is next to Ports of Call, a shopping and dining area with great food and cold beer. Eat at Lattitudes Tavern. There is also a casino nearby and two dive operations. I recommend Dive Provo. If you need to be on the beach then check the usual sites - Expedia and Travelocity. The people are great, food is great, hot women (if you are into that kind of thing) and the diving is fantastic. And it really isn't that expensive considering it's international.

have fun,

Cappy

Get on the beach, and DIVE...if you are into that. At least throw a mask and fins on at least....

Crime is getting worse there.....so watch your back just a little...

The Allegro Casino near Comfort Suites is torn down now. Comfort Suites will be your best bargin (about $100, maybe more in season). A little more upscale is The Sands at Grace Bay. May be a bit pricey in season. Ask for Tereasa. Got to go diving if you have the time. Rental cars are easy, just remember to drive on left. ProvoAirCenter.com has a good website and you can make reservations there and also get an idea on all ground charges. Used Sky King before the FBO was built - they are an local airline, no real FBO. Provo Air is much beter and more convienent. On your outbound flight plan - be sure to get it faxed to the tower well ahead and follow up with phone calls to make sure and then verify on the radio before start up that they have it - they will not give you the clearance before start up - most likely as you are back taxiing for T/O. Flight levels start around 5 or 6000'.

If you dive with a tank, I hear it's superb. Dive Provo was mentioned. I free dive and have a blast on Provo.
There's a beach on the north end of the island, only accessible by 4wd/suv (prohibited by auto rentals) . Be careful, but it is worth the drive. A pristine white sand beach with dilapidated French tiki huts, did I mention nude beach!
I cruised about a mile off the beach in crystal clear water.
Alot of Dominican chicas, which is nice. Food is typical Carib./good.
My info is a few years old, but that fits well on "island time".:)
FBO as listed above, much better than before.

We were there about a year ago. FBO is good. We stayed with them once and quick turned on the way to the VI a few times. They will take care of all the customs requirements for you. They will also help you with your flight plan being faxed to the tower. Gettin good weather info down there was a problem. Computer at FBO wouldn't work. At the motel there is a computer in the breezeway you can feed dollar bills in and it works real good for internet access. Appeared to be high speed hook up. I could check weather and emails for less than $5.

We stayed at the Miramar Resort. It's down by the boat basin or marina. It's on a hill. Small place, quiet. Has a bar/rest. Half dozen resturants around the boat basin. Got a break for being a pilot. Insist on the ocean view, not much to the pool view. I enjoyed hanging out down by the boats with the crews. Canada Bob's car rentals at the bottom of the hill. Back of the island really developing in private houses. We rented a car one day and rode around.

If you want more of an all inclusive resort, those places up on Grace Bay would be a better bet.

Food is great no mater where you eat. My favorite is a restaurant is called 21 North. Try the Caesar pizza or the hot wings. When you get done there walk back to the ice cream shop that is a few doors down. There is a internet cafe downstairs also. All of these places are located a few yards from the Comfort Inn, which has a great pool.

Oh and don't forget to Dive Provo!

Provo

If you want a cheap room ($95) and a GREAT burger, then stay at the Turtle Cove Marina and Resort. Rustic rooms with great view of the marina. Always a nice breeze blowing (no no-see-ums) The bar has the best burger on the island. And their conch salad is better than the one I make!! $20 from Provo Jet Center. Ask for Mr. T Taxi at the ramp.
