Looking for info on Tunis, Tunisia... any one ever been there? If so any help on services , hotels, customs would be a great help...thanks Bob

Just was there last month for a week.

We stayed at the Tunis Sheraton. Pretty nice place. Good safe food, nice gym and a nice, very smokey, pub to get an adult beverage. Rooms had Air conditioning, but it didn't seem to work to well.

Services were pretty good. Lots of tips helped us get through the checkpoints. Don't take anything of question through customs. Our mech tried to take in some DVD/movies and customs took them. He had nothing offensive they just don't like western stuff getting in I guess.

We took a tour of Cathrage and the local Markets. Pretty unconfortable being Americans walking around in public.

None of us are slam clickers and I honestly can say it is a pretty boring place. It was nice to leave.

The Meridien is also good. Many stay at the Hilton which is a mite close to the Arab League Headquarters for some. The Souk is the best this side of the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. Tunis is known for it's blue and white birdcages. Tunisia is one of the more liberated Arab states - a place where women actually have rights and a voice. Check the State Department for travel warnings before you go. Have fun, but be careful.
