Hey Guys and Gals,
Those of you that work for TSA do you commute. Can you?... are the trip schedules accomodating of commuting after building some seniority? Thanks for the info I live in Houston and just wondering if its at all possible.

Thanks,
Stinker

Well as a recently departed J-41 dude. I can honestly say that you might be
able to commute. Well the scheduling dept. does their best to make sure you
spend as little time as possible at home. This includes 10 days off if you are
on reserve and 11 if you can hold a line. If you want to leave early and catch
the last flight then you are out of luck. THey have a special black book and
if you are in it then you are out of luck. You have to suck up to them at all
times or they will put you in there. Take whatever they give you or find
yourself spending an extra day trying to get home or getting back to work.

Good Luck

Commuting with TSA is hell.

It is deffinately easier to commute if you get the jet. Schedules are better. I have been doing a two leg commute for almost a year now.

Here is a trick. I work at a cargo airline and one of the captains (who is now nicknamed captain domino's) orders pizzas all the time for the crew schedulers.

The embraer schedules are much better and commuting is a heck of a lot easier than being on the J-41. I commute out of Florida and haven't had a problem finding decent commutable lines. Good Luck.

Black book? I thought they just read my mind and came up with the worst possible choices for me.

But seriously, prop lines aren't too bad because you generally finish trips around 7AM. So, you can be home by noon on a "work" day. And if you have a short commute and like to take chances, most prop trips start mid-afternoon. Jet lines are different, but more days off. Generally considered better. Avoid RIC, has a bad reputation for commuters.

For what it's worth, try this:

Call CS and tell them you're 'Attourney so and so' representing 'your name' investigating a discrimination lawsuit.
You will have anything your heart desires...I promise!

Buy 'em pizzas...ok, if you want to make them feel powerful, but when they're pissing their pants they go a lot further.

How's Hulas doing?

I was a WaterSkier in 99-00 during contract negotiations. Is the company still the same? Is it crappy like when I was there? And, people being fired left and right? Just curious...

They're on a firing spree right now.

yes...and then again, no

everyone I've talked to said the company is a lot better than when it was neg. time a few years ago. However, it's coming that time again soon so yeah, they are starting a firing spree and it just so happens that a few high-up union members were the target. I wear my Oakleys in the terminal now with my hat down low and try to find a big fat guy/gal to walk behind. It's gettin' hot in herrrrre!!!!!

Mostly just the union office holders. Another 100% strike vote is on the horzion.

Commuting on TSA is horrible. They intentionally create the lines so that one cannot commute. They intentionally create schedules as to use pilots as inefficiently as possible. They intentionally create schedules to keep pilots away from home as much as possible. Do you see where this is going? Run far, run fast, and don't look back.

Commuting from Houston to St. Louis is a piece of cake on Southwest. They are real nice about it too. I'm on the prop, and I have a pretty nice schedule, and I've only been here a year. 15-17 days off.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Don't put your career in a hole or in jeopardy by coming to TSA. Do a search of Trans States on this board and you will read how happy we all are not.

If you live in Houston, why not try to get on with EX JET? Possibly no commute and a half decent contract!??!!??

The Future of TSA looks very bleek!!

STAY AWAY!!

Hey Palmtree,

Thanks for the advice a bird in the hand is worth more than two in a bush. I have a class date with TSA and currently that is my only employment or soon to be. I have heard good things and bad things about TSA. I guess I will see for myself..How would coming to TSA jeopardize ones career..?Is their a stigma for TSA pilots..? I heard they were a good group of guys and gals and respected..? Well anyhow I have done some searching and have heard the GOJET stuff... I plan on supporting a pay raise and not screwing those who have come before me.... Best of luck see you on the line..

15 to 17 days off on the J41 in STL? I call BS! Maybe if you are on reserve and don't get called on 5 to 7 days you are required to be available.

If you add in all the half days and days you are home by 10:00 am, 15-17 days off is very likely.

trans states has a horrible corporate culture. i don't know how different that is from other regionals though (never worked at another airline). prop schedules really stink. jet schedules are much better but i hear they are getting worse.

that gojet website seems almost like a joke. who's doing the punking here.

STINKER,

Life's not all that bad at TSA. If you work hard (and I mean really hard) during training you'll do fine. This will without a doubt be one of the toughest training programs you will complete. My advice is to hook up with some other motivated class members and study each and every night together. If you end up needing help, ask early.... Keep a good attitude and try not to listen to all the gossip.

Once you get through training, you'll be flying with some of the greatest guys in the business. You'll enjoy it if you come to work, do your job and go home.... Leave all the BS at work..

Good Luck.:)

I believe the "jeopardizing your career" quote from above is in reference to GoJets and anyone who accepts a position there if it gets up and running without being under the current Trans States pilot contract. I believe those who would take such jobs would be looked at like those who took jobs at Freedom before the Mesa whiplashed contract was signed. While they wouldn't really be scabs per definition- they would certainly be seen as pilots not to be hired by any other unionized airline once they began to try to find work outside GoJets.
