Being exposed to radiation from the weather radar, glass displays and solar radiation are all acceptable hazards that are part of the job.

Being irradiated by some useless machine operated by a bunch of inept smurfs that will do nothing to stop terrorists or improve safety is not part of the job.

FedEx carries some nasty stuff sometimes, so the DOT makes sure that the pilots and handlers aren't "hot" like Karen Slikwood.
