Probably the biggest joke I've ever seen. But I expect that from the federal government....So once we print it out ( which took forever ) what do we do then?? I'd like to wipe my a$$ with it and send it to the TSA but that will probably get me arrested

rest assured that if I catch you with a pry bar working on my airpleane, I'm gonna' contact my supervisor alright..... right after I beat you to a bloody froth and send you on a personal meet-and-greet with allah and your 70 virgins.

Airport security varies... At VNY we have an entire police force dedicated to the field. They appreciate us calling them so they can get some action, too.

At BFL, the airport is on the other side of the tracks, all three of them. Folks there contact the supervisor just to let them know they need more ammo. Their motto, "Shoot back first."

:) It prints at like 75DPI. I think you should just walk up to folks and say "Can you hear mohammed screaming in the fiery pit of hell where he has been roasting alive for 1373 years?" If they say "Yeah, I hear him" and give you a high five then they are good to go. If they show any discomfort at all then just remove the tire iron from your waistband and say "You'll hear him in just a sec!"

If no one figured this out yet you actually don't have to let the thing go thru all of the speaches. Just keep clicking next until it does that stupid loading thing. Then keep clicking next some more. Go thru the how to spot a bad guy thing the same way. Just hit next. Now its time to print out the certificate. If it doesn't print then just right click and hit print. Thats what I had to do. Whole thing took 5 min.

This is the first I have heard of this. I am not currently instructing at a school and was wondering if this had any bearing on my CFI staying valid. I would think that the FAA would have sent a mailing out to all CFIs. Also is there any validity to the points made that ATPs do not need to comply with this.

I love the fact that an airplane landing on grass is cause for alarm, umm its required to be taught why would is cause a redflag? Also what about the woman paying cash?? CASH IS KING and I only except it when giving lessons.

In addition to the training, if you are employed by a school the school registers with the TSA and each instructor also registers. Don"t forget that we are also now required to verify the nationality of the person we are providing training to> Must look at either a birth certificate or passport. If they are US Citizens, you must put a logbook endorsement in both the student and your logbook stating you have done the verification. If they are not US citizens, they must apply to the TSA (fingerprints) and be approved before any training can begin. The nationality verification requirements apply only to instruction leading to a rating, not IPC, BFR, high perf, complex, high altitude, etc.

I checked with our POI the other day and she wasn't sure. She said probably not (meaning this doesn't apply to ATP's giving instruction under 121) because the company was responsible for checking backgrounds etc... but she said she would make sure.

It doesn't take a computer genius to realize that you could go through it once and then print off as many certificates with as many different names as possible. Sure the print button goes away after the first time, but a little right-click action took care of that for me (wanted to print extra copies for work and myself).

The biggest sham of it all was you didn't have to input your name, certificate number or anything to take it. Where is the accountability in that? A 12 year old with halfway decent MS Paint skills could scan it, change the name, and print one in 10 minutes. It was a waste of time and effort, and I guarantee you could have given any college CS major a grand and they woudl have produced a much better, much more reliable, much more realistic product. My tax dollars hard at work.

I feel safer already; don't you?

/disclaimer: BoilerUP has not committed any of the aforementioned fraud, he simply is stating the fact that it *could* be done. So if you are with the FAA, TSA, FBI, CIA, Secret Service or Department of Homeland Security be advised no crimes have been committed in the composure of this post.

Did it, quick and easy, no real test. Wish they had a wallet certificate...

Printing problems...solution that worked for me.

Just took it. If anyone has trouble printing the certificate, there is a pop-up box for "Active ..something or other, install". Simply, click the popup box and you'll be able to print it.

Good luck...it's a mind bender.

Our flightschool had an hour presentation on this. We watched slides, and did a pick a random CFI to answer the scenerio at the end.
Seems like most of the answers were "contact a supervisior" Funny thingis, the supervisor gets the same training in this as the CFI's. Odd. Guess the FAA is trying to cover their rear.

Ok, I got this foward today...as with most forwards I trash them ....but this seems weird. Anybody heard of this?

Emphasis is mine in the body of the notice........CFI’s….I think you MUST do this..........just to avoid any other hassle!!

[AND, if any of you are the new Authorized Aircraft Instructors (AI’s) for experimental aircraft….I would take it….since you have ‘flight instructor privileges’]

This ‘slipped up’ on me…. I was not aware of the requirement…until an especially alert admin of mine pointed out ‘must complete’ in the wording….

And, who knows…..”I’m from the TSA and here to help you!”…might occur ‘out of the blue’.

All certified flight instructors and flight school staff must complete TSA security-awareness training by Tuesday, Jan. 18. The deadline applies to all CFIs, whether or not they intend to train foreign students, Robert Albracht, director of GA ops for the TSA, told AVweb yesterday. Luckily, compliance is fairly simple. The TSA program is available online, and takes about a half-hour to complete. At the end, the instructor can print out a certificate and retain it as a record of completion.

That is the link.

I have no idea if this is BS or not.

Hi all,

I just tried accessing the site, and Zonelabs gave me a "Security Warning" about the name on the certificate not matching the domain name. Anyone else get this (I didn't enter the site after the warning)?

It sure seems odd to me that there wasn't any snail mailings to CFI's and flight schools about this.

Regards,
Scott
