Tropical getaway advice (redux):

I'm not sure what happened the original thread on this subject I started about a week ago, but thanks to all who responded. I think we've narrowed it down to Mazatlan vs. Cancun. Whadya think?

Haven't done Mazatlan but we did CUN last Spring(seems like a lifetime ago!). Loved it and will go back. Prices are reasonable and the people are exceptionally friendly. We stayed at the Sheraton and it was good. I doubt you could go wrong with any of the "name brand" resorts. The others, I don't know...

Are you after beach lounging? CUN is great for that. Fishing, snorkeling, SCUBA, Cozumel would be better, but CZM has fewer traditional beaches. I'm not sure about Mazatlan.

CUN over MZT any day. If you can't get to CUN then MZT will do but they are not comparable really. The beach and nightlife is waaaaay better at CUN.

If you don't want the "touristy" Americanization of CUN look further south down the coast, there are several nice places that are not in a specific city.
Playa Del Carmen is nice and CZM is cool too.
