Hello,

Just returned from AMS the other day. I was speaking with the station manager there before boarding my flight. The station manager has worked in Amsterdam for about 7 years. She was telling me that summer travel season has already started and it looks to be really bad for trying non-rev back and forth from Europe this summer. So, does anyone have any tricks to get back and forth from Europe this summer? Such as...flying US Air out of Philly...going out of Canada, flying into smaller European cities, etc.? Any help is greatly appreciated.

It's a bit like getting from anywhere in Europe to Bangkok or Orlando in the (northern hemisphere) winter, as far as non-rev goes you can pretty much forget about it. And besides, non-rev is nothing but stress, waiting in lines, shutting up and smiling, only to get off-loaded last minute.

Better off buying a ticket; there are plenty of good offers out there on the interweb. Best of all, you're guarenteed a seat, don't have to observe a dresscode and are free to pass comment on any sub-standard level of service you may encounter.

PS
If you could advise from which part in the US you're leaving from and to which part of Europe you plan on travelling to, I might be able to point you in the direction of a good offer. Otherwise, both places are a tad too big for specific details ;) Generally speaking, forget about Heathrow. Barajas, Schiphol, de Gaulle and Da Vinci are better prospects owing to a larger number of (US) carriers serving those destinations. Forenbu or Chopin might also be a possibility, but Atatürk and Venizelos are pretty much out of the question.
