1. Non-stops whenever possible. Cost is less important than making sure the crew is in position or home when they are supposed to be.
2. Coach for all domestic
3. Business class for all international except MX and Canada.
More than five days out we usually airline home. Coach seats. No international stuff so no big deal. No more than one stop going or coming on the airlines.
We fly King Airs and Beechjets for charter-management.
Generally speaking, with more than 3 days of 'non-flying days' scheduled for a trip, we'll airline home. Current schedules and staffing leveling will change that policy. They have also allowed us to airline home during holidays.
We usually find the least expensive tickets. Always coach. The few times we fly internationally, we will reposition the airplane to the States and airline from the AOE.
Airlining to meet an airplane is my least favorite part of this job.
We get one week off prior to, and after an international trip (most of our international trips are a week to 2.5 weeks in length). We also get one to two days off when we get to where we are going (to allow our bodies to adjust to the time change)prior to flying again.
If we airline over or back (internationally), we fly Business Class. Domestically we fly "coach".
