Use your cell phone's alarm clock. It automatically sets itself to the local time, and assuming you have kept it charged it will always be there when you need it.
If you are going to be somewhere without cell service then I can't really help you.
I use my cell phones alarm clock, and prefer it over wake up calls and hotel clock radios. The only catch is that I have found it to not always auto-update to the current timezone that I am in. Therefore, I now always leave it in central time (manual setting), and modify the wake up time accordingly.
I do not like to rely on other people to wake me up, nor do I need to carry any more additional paraffinalia (travel clock) than I already possess.
It also doubles as a reminder of events that I insert into the calender. I would venture to guess that most phones have this feature.
Get a wind-up travel alarm, if you can find one these days. I used the same $10.00 Bulova for 20 years. They work great and never have dead batteries. You're a smart guy, you can figure out the local time and set the alarm accordingly.
" Gee, I'm sorry I didn't make pickup, but my alarm clock ( cell phone...) batteries went dead and the front desk didn't give me my wakeup call ( what a big surprise, huh ??? ). "
I have a $10 WalMart travel alarm that I bought 8-10 years ago. On an interesting note, I have never changed the battery in the thing(one AA)...and it's still working great. I always set at least 2 alarms(I'm a very sound sleeper usually).....my travel alarm and either a wake-up call or room alarm. Several years ago, I set a room alarm and wake up call...and the power went out during the night....so neither worked. Luckily, I woke up about 10 mins after the alarm should have gone off.
If you're a sound sleeper....go to a truck stop...they always have those really loud alarm clocks that will wakeup everybody in the city.
For early mornings I always try to always set 2 alarms, 1 battery operated (in case there's a power outage, i.e. cell phone or wake up call), and one electrically powered (in case the battery dies or the operator forgets).
I was wondering how many other guys insist on dual alarms for early AM wakeups like me... apparently quite a few. Nothing is as horrible as missing the 4:30 AM hotel departure, and having to scramble wildly to catch up.
The dual alarm provides redundancy/peace of mind and allows for comfortable sleep. A wakeup call works well as a backup wakeup, when set for 5 minutes after the travel alarm. As soon as the travel alarm wakes me up, off comes the phone from the hook so the ringing won't start while you are showering, etc.
Thanks for the replies! I never get a good night sleep the night
before an early call out due to the worry over not waking up to
the alarm, or a power outage, etc. I like the cell phone idea except
for leaving it on all night and having friends from different time
zones calling and waking me up in the middle of the night!
Try this one. I will assure you that you WILL wake up when this thing goes off. It is very small with an increasing sound alarm. When it hits its peak you are guaranteed to be awake. You can find it cheaper but can't say where as mine was a gift.
