How long is it currently taking to upgrade to Captain in the Jetstream at Trans States Airlines?

Thanks

True, but the Captain Qualified First Officers are not upgrades. At the going rate upgrade in the J41 will be just over a year by year's end. Many FO's are being bypassed since they don't have the company-required minimum flight times. Once the current jet order is fulfilled things will slow down again unless more jets are acquired.

Dude

What is it like working for Tran States, i.e. pay, schedule? How are you assigned your base/equiptment? Thanks.

Okay. CQFO is not an upgrade. You fly the left seat, log the PIC 121 turbine time, sign the release, and get paid as a Capt. I think that's what the question was getting at. For the record I'm a CQFO but that doesn't mean I think it's right. Effectively what we have is a unionized company hiring street captains.

On to the questions.

Pay
Starting pay 21.XX / hr
60 hrs/mo during training
74 hrs/mo guarantee
most lines are built to around 80 hrs.

Schedule.
10 days off min on reserve. 11 days off min for line holders. the company is pissed about the union turning down pref bid because of the way it was abused so don't expect much more than the mins.

Aircraft/bases.
We have STL and RIC. You'll start out in RIC because right now a lot of folks want back to STL. Don't get me started on the commute to RIC. A/C are assigned during groundschool. You will have no choice.

Management.
The beatings will continue until the morale improves. It's like boot camp. This isn't the place to work if you need praise for job well done.

feel free to correct for spelling.

CQFO pay is the average of Capt and FO pay when you fly the right seat. About $30/hr. If you fly the left seat you get Capt pay. About $39/hr. If you're considering coming here to be a CQFO and to get the pay forget it. I think they're done hiring CQFO's.

Any newhires going into the jet or all into the J-41?

All the expansion is in the jets so most of the newhires are assigned there. There's still hiring into the J41 though since J41 captains are transitioning to the jet.

Username: for the record I think it's wrong to hire cqfo's as well.

Dude

A friend of mine just finished training as a new hire for the jet.
Base will be Richmond,VA. He thinks up grade will be about 18 months.

I also heard the same thing. A friend of mine is in ground school right now and said atleast 8 were going to the J41.

Hi!

I just talked 2 my friend at TSA. THey are done hiring CQFOs and will start upgrading FOs (like him) to Capt on the 41. SOme of the new hires get the 41.

The quality of life in the Jet is TONS better.

I thought it was a decent place to work.

GOod luck!
