Overheard from someone in PHX that junior is RIC, new hires into the jet. I believe Swoboda (sp?) is putting the "high timers" into the jetstream ( mostly furloughed TWAers who have come back), dunno the specifics but thought it was an interesting conversation.
I think the reasoning is that the previous typed guys could also be used as "captain" when needed. Quite a few "former" TSA'ers are now back on property from what I have heard.
Just "conversation" ...so this could be way off so don't shoot the "messanger".
TSA is hiring a lot of cqfo guys. They start in the left seat, which slows the upgrade times (currently 18 mos +) & pisses people off. The co. says they will stop hiring cqfos, but no end in sight.
Out of the last 120 or so hired, 43 are CQFOs on the J41 and the rest are FOs on the Emb145. As of the February upgrade classes the most junior J41 person was hired 3/01 and the most junior EMB145 candidate was hired 10/00. I don't know who told you upgrades are currently in the 18 month range. They might start to drop towards that in several months or so but then it will slow down again as the captain list gets longer. Without the CQFOs upgrade would be about 24 months right now. RIC is staying junior but people are getting back to STL in about 3 months. Reserve also seems to be about 3-4 months. As we get more jets that should drop too. Take care.
