Does Trans States or Eagle have a training contract? I did a search and they are listed as no contract but I would like some guys that know the facts to please post a reply.

THANKS!

No training contract at TSA.

You get paid during training. 60hrs @ $22.14
You pay for your own hotel/crash pad.

Sounds fair to me.

Doesn't sound fair to me at all. Not all of us have the cash to pay for a hotel for 6-9 weeks.

Eagle pays during training (plus some per diem, I think) as well as paying for a hotel, single occupancy and no training contract.

I HATE FREIGHT!

Yeah, bad thing about Eagle is you sit right seat 5-6+ years. I'm not willing to wait that long. TSA is only about 2-3 right now. Eagle pays 64 hours a month @20.97 and 1.50 per diem based on 16 hours a day through IOE.

Yes, eagle's upgrade time has been 5-6 years since 9/11, when they canned their probation folks, etc. Now they are growing 400-500/ year, do the math. Remember that when anybody gives you a promise of upgrade time, it's usually yesterday's news. Anyway to add to previous posts. Eagle: 65 hr/month at $21, 16hr per day at 1.50 perdiem through IOE, and of course an all expense paid trip to the luxurious Ballpark Inn in Arlington, TX (Really not that bad a place.) Best in your decision.

Very true about the upgrades, but my biggest concern is base and commutability...and at Eagle you could end up at San Juan...no thanks! I'll take St. Louis ANY day.

Depends on your age. Last guy to go there on today's bid was 25. Out of 24 slots, only 6 went to SJU. Everyone else: 3 CRJ700 ORD, 5 Emb ORD, 4 Emb DFW, 4 Saab DFW, 2 Saab LAX. Draw from it what you will.;)

Only if you are under 26 or so. Seniority in each class is based on age. At 42 (if hired) there is no way I'll wind up in San Juan.

Are you Guys kidding me? San Juan was freaking awesome. Spending your RSV days literally on the beach, flying to crazy islands with water on both sides of the runway, HOT FA's, bars that have no idea what last call is, casinos next to crash pads, SJU was sweet.

Even if you got SJU as a new hire, you probably could bid and be awarded a jet spot before you finished class. Then you could be a career RSV FO, being stuck as the 0600 airport ready for the third month in a row having to listen to all the crap that spews out of a 10 year EGL guy.

But hey, that decision is up to you.

Sounds great for a 22 year-old alcoholic frat boy. Some of us have already grown up, have familes, etc...

Unless the contract has changed, there used to be a 14 month seat lock (starting 2 weeks before hire date). I don't see how you can bid an equipment change before a year. The only thing available for a SJU ATR fo is a base change to MIA (not likely for a while).

San Juan vs St Louis?

Being a 25-year old with no commitments, I would have to say San Juan hands down. Do you have to pay taxes if you live there?
St. Louis? come on. I always think of the first Vacation movie, with Chevy Chase driving through the ghetto with his family: "you picking up all this strife kids?"

To "I hate Freight" and "VegasPilot", while I don't work at an airline yet, it seems to me that airlines tend to put you where they need you. You might want to get used to the idea that you could go anywhere your airline wants to put you, including San Juan. One nice thing about flying freight for me has been is that I usually make it home every night and have had my pick of cities.

I've loved freight, its been awesome for me.

Not that I have anything nice to say about STL (where I resided for 4 years) but I believe that scene took place in East St. Louis which is across the river in Illinois.

Dude

While that is technically correct, it has always been at the company's discretion to be able to waive that seat lock. Historically they have waived it if you bid the jet. With jet deliveries coming +/- 4 per mo. and selling off the ATR 42s in SJU, they're going to need all the jet FOs they can get. You might have to finish IOE before you can start jet class, or even be on the Rock for a month, but you get the picture, if your bid is in, the company can approve it if they want.

Problem is all of the turbo prop guys are waiting until they can hold a line before they cross over. For a new hire that spells doom because they will continue to be stepped over, thus never really rising from the hell that is RSV.

How long have you been at it?

I love the actual flying but after three years the things that get old are:

1. Loading cargo on 120 degree ramps in the summer and -30 wind chill in the winter.
2. Being soaked to the skin from rain or sweat.
3. Sleeping in disgusting places.
4. Being treated like dirt at FBO's.
5. Being filthy at the end of every day.
6. Working 16 hour days.
7. Being away from home 3 weeks at a time (as a floater).
8. Eating CRAP out of vending machines because there is no crew car and no place to eat within walking distance.

... I could go on but I have to leave for work now, but I'll be back in 17 hours.

I HATE FREIGHT!
