I have a question for all that have failed out of training at any airline.

A friend of mine has recently been let go from the company.

The situation is this; He failed his oral the first time which a few people had also done ( let it be known that this was the hardest oral I had ever taken and just passed), and after doing a few sim sessions with the same guy who taught our ground school, he felt ready! Well, the instructor said he could not recommend him for his next oral, so the instructor told the chief flight instructor this and he was terminated!!!!!

Now, my question is for any of you who have washed out of training, What do you do now?
Did any of you get jobs elsewhere?
How did you explain your termination ( actually, he was allowed to resign)?
What did the comapnies ask you about it, and.....do you think there is any hope of salvation from this?

Thank you to all that answer honestly!!!!

Hmmm.....

I forgot to mention that my friend was origigally in a different A/C at the company and was furloughed for a year and just recalled!

He had not flown at all since that period.............give the guy a break!

Don't have anything for your friend,

But sleak and 172 in the same sentence I didn't know that it was possible.

Thanks for your reply.

Actually my friend was getting extra help from his sim partner and his instructor, but I guess he couldn't prove he knew all he needed to know.

He was really trying hard as well, it's just a shame.

I don't really want to get into all the details except the fact that his instructor seemed to be helping as much as he could, but just wasn't convinced.

So, I really wanted some advice from other people whom this has happened to.

Again, thanks for the reply.

And yes I spelled sleek wrong, dammit Jim I'm a pilot not a wordsmith!! See ya

phishn@daves,

I have interviewed a lot of pilots who "resigned' from a previous job during training or before going off probation, and it IS A RED FLAG, but it isn't uncommon.

My policy is to simply ask them to explain what happened, and then listen. And, let me point out, that anyone who goes into a tirade about how bad or unfair a previous employer was has two strikes against him/her immediately. Don't fall into that trap!

If I like their explanation, I table that issue and move on. If they make me think they are hiding something, they don't get hired. It is just that simple, at least for me.

Also, if I like their explanation, and consider hiring them, I confirm their story to the greatest extent possible before making a final decision.

By the way, I have hired people in exactly this situation who turned out to be very good, and very competent, employees and pilots.
