What regionals have training contracts? What is their length and cost? No flames please. Facts appreciated. Thanks.

One of the best classes I took for my masters was on contract law... They are not alwyas enforceable, probably not at all in this economy. The theory is the contract is non-negotiable because you can't find any other jobs. If its non-negotiable its not really enforceable, but this varies by state.

And in case you don’t understand corporate speak let me translate a training contract for you.

This job sucks. We treat our employees like crap. So much so that every employee we’ve had before you quit soon after training. Rather than treat our employees well we’ve decided to try to force them to stay with a contract. This way we can keep shoveling monkey poop on them and they can’t quit.

Maybe I should restate my original question:

What regionals DO NOT have training contracts?

In other words, which ones treat the employees so well, you won't want to leave within the first couple years?

I believe this was your original quest "what regionals HAVE....".

As you asked who doesn't Air Wisconsin don't and a lot stick around to they retire and many here are >5 years and up.

Training note

At MESA:

If less than 4 years, and a voluntary training event, $10,000 for the jet prorated over 1 year and cut in half if 60 days notice given.

Ok, soooo...

No training contract:
Air Wisconsin

Training Contract:
Every other regional

Can this be right?

In response to English: Sadly, no.

Everyone working for a regional wants to leave after the reality of seeing their first paycheck sinks in.

Eagle doesn't have a training contract. Neither does SkyWest. But that doesn't mean either company treats their employees so well that they won't want to leave.

Pinnacle has a training contract, it's on the last page of the app you have to fill out during your interview. That said, a lot of us who interviewed around that time frame don't believe in training contracts, so we simply didn't sign that page... and still got hired. No one said anything about it during the interview. Odd, but true...

Incidentally, I checked and it's not enforceable in TN, I'm not even sure they pursue anyone for it anymore...?

Less than 4 years of what?
And what is a "voluntary training event"?
How does it work? Say at 6 months, you'd owe $5K, and if you give them 60 days notice, it gets halved to $2.5K?

training contracts-Netjets

I know this is the "Regional" page, but just some FYI for those of you thinking about going "Fractional". Netjets does have a 2yr. training contract and believe it or not, it is inforceable in the state of Ohio, even if you live in another state such as Illinois or Nebraska. Santulli and his laywers have alot of money and will come after you till you cough up what you owe. Ask anyone who has flown for them and left for a airline job for one of the big three carriers BEFORE 9/11. The economy is soft right now and Santulli does not have the orders or customers he had as of 2 years ago. Anyway, just my $.02 cents for what it is worth. Think twice, act once before signing anything- or make sure you REALLY want to work for your respective company for the respected time frame. Nice industry we all work in eh? Makes one sick!

No contract at Mesaba - nobody should go there anyway for a couple of months (years) anyway - They are about to get screwed out of the money spent on my Saab training because I start at Air Wisconsin in a week or two. Serves them right for d$icking around with the pilots so much lately and telling me I'm furloughed a month and a half after hiring me (and subsequently recalling me three weeks later!) Brilliant crew planning department!

I had a training contract with a helicopter company in PA. Not sure if it was legal, but they had one. I left early and used my unused vacation to pay it off.

Oh yeah, no contract at Comair.
