Any of you guy's know who to talk to about flying circles around the fender benders in Austin, TX? I'm getting pretty desperate and this is about the only thing I might me qualified to do since the teaching gig is so slow.

Thanks in advance,

scoot

I read awhile back the the guy who owns the FBO in Lockhart got the traffic watch contract, but I know for sure that another guy out of Georgetown currently does it too. I think there a couple of aircraft up there for some of the different stations.

I believe the guy out of GTU flies a 152 from Adventure Aviation, but I could be wrong. Their last guy came over to our place and asked if any of us were interested in taking over for him, but we weren't. I believe the requirements then were a CFI and 700 TT, although that has probably changed. If you aren't getting much flying done, it might be a good supplement for your paycheck and logbook, but it certainly won't be as valuble as flight instruction.

Where do you instruct?

Adventure Aviation in Georgetown had the contract last year -- I think they still do. They're in the phone book. Don't have any idea as to min requirements.

Good luck,

Z

Flight instruction is good, but you can only learn so much in a 172 while letting someone else fly. Chandelles and Lazy eights are great manuevers if you plan on taking a commercial ride soon. Otherwise it would be wise to do what ever it takes to hurry and get your 135 PIC minimums so you can get on with your real learning.

Traffic Watch would be more beneficial than instructing for the simple fact that you will build time quicker. You are already a CFI and you have already instructed. The box is already checked. Go get flight time as quick as possible and start to move up the food chain.

Any chance someone on here would know who to contact about that Traffic watch job? Heck any job for that matter?

Let me know when you find out. I'm instructing out of Adventure and they don't have the contact info for the new company. Instructing is slow and I need to do something.

Every morning and afternoon I hear "Cessna 255" leave and return from traffic watch. I thought he was with you guys at Adventure, but I guess not. I don't know the full N number, but if you find that out you'll know who has the contract. It's a blue and white 152.

I still maintain that instructing is better than traffic watch. Especially if you are a CFII/MEI. Time spent supervising a guy fly a twin down to minimums, single engine, in IMC will certainly make you a better pilot than hands-on VFR in a 152. That said, I understand that anything that puts time in your logbook is better than not flying at all. Good luck.

I agree. The time would definitely be a supplement and not replacement.

Where are you out of? We should grab some lunch someday.

if SAT isnt too far for ya, i know a 135 company looking for pilots out there...both VFR (500total) and IFR (1200total).

lemme know ;)

alaska? no goofball, San Antonio...geez

but...there is a new ad on climto350 for pilots in Alaska that have 700TT and CFII

Island Air Service is a scheduled air carrier based in Kodiak, Alaska. Full time entry level pilot positions are currently available flying single-engine land aircraft, with progression to multi-engine. Applicants should meet the following requirements: Current, working Instrument Instructor with a Multi-Engine rating, College degree (4 year preferred), 700 hours total time, Send or Fax resume to: Chief Pilot. When applying, ref: climbto350.com. NO CALLS!!

My point was that I would be willing to move all the way to AK for a job. SAT is perfect. I even have family there.

Looking forward to hearing about it.

I don't know if it is still the same company or not...but the last guy I knew that was flying traffic watch in AUS wasn't getting paid. Hopefully things have changed - that was 3 years ago. If you can find a t.w. job flying full time TAKE IT!! Ditch the CFI job (12 hrs at the airport / 1.2 hrs flight time) and build the 1200 as fast as you can. Yeah, sure you learn from teaching but your education really doesn't start until you are flying single pilot in the soup.

Last report I heard was the pilot earned $12 per hour and flew from 6-8am and then again at 4-6pm.

Not too shabby. I could still instruct and get consistent flight time.

Well Scoot it looks like if you find out who does the flying out there, it's all yours.
Gotta love technology...this board makes it possible to find work (or the hope of work) even when times are as bad as they are.

Use caution

Scooter, last I knew these people had a contract with Metro Traffic to expand into 8 more markets last summer and eventually something like 20 or more total. By October/November they hadn’t gotten one done and were in hot water. (Haven’t paid much attention since then.) You might want to do a search for Metro Traffic and call them directly. Heck, if you can swing a loan put in a bid to do it yourself. 60-80 hrs a month will pay for a 172. If you can do some research/planning why put money in someone else's pocket? FWIT I was in a situation where I flew 450 hrs/year for one customer and wish I could have bought a 172 and done it myself rather than use someone else's plane.

Thanks for the input guy's. I got Grey's address from their website, however, all positions have been filled. Squeaky wheel get the oil right?

I'll look into the Metro stuff. As alway's, if any of you guy's are in town, give me a shout.
