I had to follow a flight up the East Coast tonight in which one of the pilots felt it was necessary to call Center back once he got the called traffic in sight (this is in the flight levels). This hero blocked either an ATC or aircraft transmission every time causing more radio clutter, especially when he would attempt to call traffic in sight AGAIN, which again blocked a more pertinent transmission.
ATC points out traffic as a courtesy and so you won't be alarmed. Unless ATC asks you to report the traffic in sight, don't bother making the unnecessary transmission, he doesn't need to know if you "have" the traffic or not and would rather not have the unnecessary radio call to have to listen to. A friendly "thank you" or roger in response to the first call is all that's needed, not a second transmission.
