Just to the East a bit. Anybody know what it is? I was wondering if its the pole they use to put aircraft on to test radar signatures?

Too funny, flew over it yesterday and I was like, "What in the hell is that?"

Another government sponsored program courtesy of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. It's the "green" method of using taxpayer dollars for campaign donations.

Ahh.. the things you can build with 780mil taxpayer loan and a few teamsters, a big stick of concrete clearly visible from FL380!
If nothing else it should make for a eery resemblance to the tower of Mordor with the light blasting off the top!

copy and paste the above to google maps and then pan a little North and West.

Not really. This doesn't even get you to the correct state.

Google map "Crescent Dunes, Nye, NV" and you'll be in the ball park. I don't know if the pictures were taken after construction began or not. I don't see the tower but the resolution on the pix of this area isn't the best.

IIRC, they are planning on melting salt, a way to store energy. The concept from I read sounds pretty cool. Viable, I am not sure, but certainly anything that gets us to renewable sources of energy is pretty cool and worth a shot.
