St. Petersburg Police Arrest 20

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- About 100 police were sent to break up an unruly crowd that set a car ablaze and injured at least five people in the same neighborhood where riots broke out eight years ago after a black motorist was killed by a police officer.

The crowd gathered Wednesday night, hours after attorneys for the family of 18-year-old TyRon Lewis wrapped up their lawsuit against the city in the 1996 shooting.

There were reports of gunfire, looting and a car set ablaze, police said.

Twenty people were arrested, including nine juveniles. Two juveniles and an adult were facing charges for allegedly shooting at a police officer who was not hit.

On Thursday, Omali Yesh-itela, a leader of a local black socialist group, called on the city to settle the lawsuit with the Lewis family, saying Mayor Rick Baker "could save the city from going through a trauma by having the city attorneys make a settlement."

The family is seeking $15,000 in the lawsuit, which went to trial this week.

Baker said the city is continuing to have settlement talks, but will not rush to an agreement.

"You do not settle it as a result of threats of criminal violence," Baker said at a news conference Thursday outside City Hall

"Uhhhh...that's not cardboard...that's corrugated paper. Cardboard is what's on the back of a notepad."

Spoken like someone who's seen the inside of more than one paper mill

No, some smartass said that to him in another thread. Can't remember who it was, but they have logged an hour or two in a mill somewhere I'd bet.

Ahhh, that's the story. I thought I'd heard FN-FAL in one of his various incarnations speak of working on paper machines....anyway, nothing derogoatory intended in my comment.

Haha...I was going to straighten him out myself A Squared...but you beat me to it :D

Yea, the corrugated thing was a saying at the last mechanical job I had before I broke into full time professional flying. We made equipment for the corrugated box industry and if you used the word "card board" you would usually get hit with the note pad statement.
