Sure usc, I'm narrow minded. No problem. Are you going to tell me that Rush is a liberal? Regardless of my not quoting any news source, only opining, he is well known as a far right wing conservative. As much as you or anyone else would like to tell me that right wing conservatives are open-minded, I'd disagree. Again, that comment stands for itself. He didn't get flack because it was an accurate statement. There are plenty of QB's who weren't having good years and all received attention. Kurt Warner ring a bell??? Rush went right after McNabb because he's black. If I took that comment horribly out of context, then why doesn't he work at ESPN any longer? Just decided to move on with his career? Sure.

Mr. I.

His exact quote......."I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well,'' Limbaugh said. "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

He may very well be right that D carried the Eagles....but couldn't that point be made w/o mentioning McNabb's race???

McNabb's career passing stats:

Comp Att Pct Yds Y/G Y/A TD Int

60.1 106 216 49.1 948 79.0 4.4 8 7
77.8 330 569 58.0 3365 210.3 5.9 21 13
84.3 285 493 57.8 3233 202.1 6.6 25 12
86.0 211 361 58.4 2289 228.9 6.3 17 6
70.5 168 307 54.7 1819 181.9 5.9 7 7

Not to mention over 2,000 yards rushing and 15 rushing TD's. Seems a little odd to go after this guy. I wonder if Andy Reid would disagree with Rush....?

Found quotes on the net about this guy and recall the uproar over some of them, no more so than the referal to a dog in the White House in 1992 and his showing a picture of 12 year old Chelsea Clinton. A real winner Rush. I don't listen to his show but have heard it in the past. Haha. Give me irrefutable evidence that he isn't a racist!!! It would only become point counterpoint.

Mr. I.

up to your old tricks !!

I know Al Franken doesnt do bong hits wish one of you fat bastard libs could lose 50 lbs like Rush . So he said McNabb was tteated differently due to race ,would I no but all you Libs talk about freedom of speech and flag burning so what gives with Rush... Oh right hes an exception Yea right As far as drug abuse ... Truth is Oxycotone is one of the most abused addictive drugs out there . Its obviously a case of green envy Green as in $$$ . Go watch a Streisand movie and sleep it off !!

Mr Irrelevant

What freedom of speech is owned by liberals. Streisand and Brolan should slander Reagan in a 2 cent movie dumped by CBS ???? Grow up Freedom of speech applies to all. Our citizens died to save peoples freedom of speech. Co move to China or Cuba ! Chas

Actually Chas, I thought that movie was a filthy disgrace too. Only got the sound bites since they pulled it, but don't lump me in with Barbara. I call em like I see em. To borrow a phrase from Nancy R., all he should have done was "Just say no". You don't get addicted if you say no the first time.

Sorry Huge, I can't stop - oh no - maybe I'm addicted

Rush's own words about how it happened (probably copyrighted):"I've got two herniated disks between C5 and C6 or in that area, and I have discovered something while I've been gone that the way I sit at a computer aggravates it partially but I'm also taking medication for it called Vioxx. I was introduced to Vioxx out at the treatment center, and it has cut the discomfort, which is considerable, and it's primarily when I sit. It's cut it in over half. They also introduced me to a sort of a physical therapy plan.

But here's the thing. I mean, the bottom line is it's there and I'm probably going to have to have surgery for it. And the reason I have not had surgery on this is that the surgery goes through the throat, to get to where my problem area is, your doctors have to gently push the larynx aside. And they say, don't worry, 98% success rate. Well, given my line of work the 2% was bigger than the 98% to me, and what that meant was - but don't misunderstand folks, I am not saying that that's why - I took the drugs because I liked them and I found excuses to take them, so I'm not weaseling. I'm just saying that one of the things was that I did not put my health first. That's one of the things about being an addict. I was not putting my health first. The minute that pain started I should have gone to a doctor and if it says you're going to be out of work for four weeks or five, that's what I should have done. But I didn't, because I liked the pills too much. And I may have to do this, depending on whether or not I can control the pain with other things. And I probably will have to do it at some point. Just so you know."

okay, here's one

Q: Have you heard about Michael Jackson's New Book?
A: It's called "The In's and Out's of Child Rearing

During Michael Jackson's booking, I wonder what the cops marked down for Jacko's race and gender? Both are a little ambiguous.

Irrelevant
Nothing about that statement is racist. Just because a statement contains someones race does not make it racist. Bad taste yes, as many others have said.
Having said that I think that there was perhaps a "sinister" motive on Limbaugh's part. I think that he knew that his drug problem was about to be revealed and the Mcnabb comment was a great way to deflect some of the attention.
It also did a great job showing how hypocrytical the left is when it comes to race.

A lone voice of reason among the rabid hordes falling on both sides of the fence ...

Rush is the king of the phuksticks, no doubt. He is a walking, talking abortion. He is laughable in the extreme and I can't wait until the Enquirer publishes pictures of him in pseudo-Nazi S&M leather being savagely buggered by a Cuban gardener. It's only a matter of time. Anyone as judgemental and self-righteous as this idiot is has more than one skeleton in his closet. And in truth, he probably is a racist pig.

However ...

What the press did with the McNabb comment was equally laughable. It was about the most ridiculous thing I've seen since that commie kum-slurper Katy Couric rudely baited David Duke, only to have him completely embarass her stupid, monkey-cheeked @ss on national TV. Rush's comment was, in my humble opinion, NOT a racist remark in any shape, form, or fashion. Any attempt to make it otherwise is just left-wing yellow journalism. Further, he was most likely also correct. I'm ashamed to say I'd have to agree with him on this point.

That makes two points I agree with him on, the other being abortion. Now I don't feel so well. :(

I was going to reply to this, but I have to say that it pretty much contains its own criticiszm.

Good for you.

When I was a liberal, I knew that most of the media was painfully race-conscious, rather than having the colorblind attitude sought after by Dr. King. As alluded to in a Bush speech from a few years ago, it was a subtle form of racism, involving low expectations and even lower standards.

Take a look at that whole ebonics fiasco. Everyone else who comes to America has learned to speak English correctly, some almost perfectly. Some liberal pinhead gets the bright idea that speaking English poorly is a genuine sub-dialect worthy of study and instruction. In fact, this manner of speaking only exists because of racist beliefs on the part of those speaking, because to speak properly sounds "too white", just as studying and achieving is "acting white". Fortunatley for everyone, not all black people buy into this lie that is promoted through music and culture, as if this is somehow a legitimate part of the "black experience". It is only a symptom of a cultural barrier, a racial iron curtain, and it is difficult to break. It is self-imposed exile.

The McNAbb comment was an observation of the guilt and bias of the media, in a subtextual frenzy to celebrate black quarterbacks, whether or not those praises are earned. To praise a quarterback, or anyone simply because they have a certain skin color is racist indeed. That's what upsets me so much about Halle Berry's award speech. It was supposed to be a recognition of her acting talent by her show business peers, the academy members. Instead, it became a referendum on black actors, and she singled herself out as a groundbreaking crusader, a la Rosa Parks, where no such accolade was in order. It was an award for acting, not for being a black actress.

Unfortunately, speech is becoming tightly controlled in our culture, and if you speak freely you are at personal risk of being labelled. You have different rules to follow based on gender, race, and background, otherwise you'd better watch out. There are people who will attempt to ruin you if you don't toe the line.

You don't get addicted if you say no the first time.

True. But who expected this drug, prescribed by a doctor, to be so highly addictive? When Rush was first being treated, no one knew what was starting to happen with Oxy. Now, there are lawsuits over this drug.

Seriously, who would expect a prescription to control the pain of a herniated disc would be so addictive?

I'll just say it's hard for me to interpret his statement as anything other than a dig on the media, not black people. It clearly said to me that he thought the media were bigoted for giving him the extra press because of his race.

Here,Here. The media and the PC police are unsuspecting bigots by giving minorities a bye. However well-intentioned they may be, they don't do anyone a favor by not encouraging them to achieve their potential through hard work and dedication. It may not be easy and it may not be fair, but that's life and part of life is overcoming obstacles.

And thanks to the drugs he's not fat and can't hear. It should be a reminder of all the problems of uncontrolled excess. I wonder if while he was losing his hearing he associated it with the drug use.
