To Whom It May Concern,

As many of you are aware the proposed merger between Mesa and ACA would in theory create a pretty good sized airline. On the other hand we are dealing with JO.

I do have some friends there and we were discussing some issues in regards to "IF" this merger was actually consumated.Their concerns were numerous and , quite frankly, some that I had never really considered before. Here is a basic list for starters:

-No merger has ever worked in the favor of pilots. Since ACA is overstaffed, furloughs are inevitable.

-Our furloughs are senior to the bottom few hundred on the Mesa seniority list. (They would come back and Mesa pilots would be on the street)

-Combined, our list would be 3500+ pilots. In order to get an upgrade would take an additional 3000 pilots...who here believes it possible that JO can grow and manage an airline of that size?

-Senior pilots will have to worry about their movement as well. We do have some relatively long-lifers here.

-USAir announced yesterday it will reapply to ATSB for $1.8 billion in loan guarantees. Should USAir contract even a small amount it could be major furloughs for the combined Mesa/ACA.

-A merge pilot list would NOT bring higher wages to Mesa pilots. JO has no intention of allowing pay/work rules to dribble over.

-Even United is still unstable and gambling on the ATSB loan AND relief from pension liability to survive. What happens if they burp?

-JO has said that he does not need ACA to obtain additional acft. If so, and the merger and the merger is NOT consumated, Mesa pilots would be looking at replacing our feed at IAD...read 1500 NEW pilots on your list!

This is a brief description of some issues I/we have discussed and I would like to have an informal discussion with the Mesa pilots regarding what I have said here. I am not here to flame anyone and would request the same from other posters.

If you would like to send me a personal message then that's OK too!

Fly Safely

Mike

I totally agree. As a Mesa pilot I have not spoken to one pilot that wants JO to win this fight. Lets hope that the "I" will fly. Good luck to all at ACA. -Bean

As a Mesa pilot I can tell you that I too know of no pilots at mesa hoping the merger happens.

I really hope you guys succeed, good luck.

Crazy thought: How about a reverse takeover?

The attempt might make J.O. rethink his position.

"K.O. J.O."

Cappy brings up many good points. Once again JO has something on the move that will NOT benefit either pilot group.

Mesa would lose it growth and possibly furlough - Definitely NO more quick upgrades.

ACA pilot would have to deal with JO and all his S$it.

Try and work this togehter!

To all Mesa pilots who wish ACA well:

If you don't support the merger
If you recognize that there are certain negatives to the merger
If you would like all of the UAX flying out of IAD

We need your help!!!

Agreed

-Our furloughs are senior to the bottom few hundred on the Mesa seniority list. (They would come back and Mesa pilots would be on the street)

I dont think that would happen as our contract language does not allow for our pilots to be furloughed as a result of a merger. This also includes the assumption that the lists would be merged by date of hire. Mesa does not have a history of following date of hire no telling what they would cook up if this thing goes through.

-Combined, our list would be 3500+ pilots. In order to get an upgrade would take an additional 3000 pilots...who here believes it possible that JO can grow and manage an airline of that size?

JO cant handle what he has now...NO WAY he can handle that behemouth.

-Senior pilots will have to worry about their movement as well. We do have some relatively long-lifers here.

I think that is a concern for everyone. I have heard talk of fences to prevent displacements etc.

-USAir announced yesterday it will reapply to ATSB for $1.8 billion in loan guarantees. Should USAir contract even a small amount it could be major furloughs for the combined Mesa/ACA.

Agreed. Sucks

-A merge pilot list would NOT bring higher wages to Mesa pilots. JO has no intention of allowing pay/work rules to dribble over.

I think you will see "reverse dribble" Jo will eventually try to force our work rules etc over time. If he cant force it right away he will slop it in over time.

-Even United is still unstable and gambling on the ATSB loan AND relief from pension liability to survive. What happens if they burp?

We all go straight to hell!!!

-JO has said that he does not need ACA to obtain additional acft. If so, and the merger and the merger is NOT consumated, Mesa pilots would be looking at replacing our feed at IAD...read 1500 NEW pilots on your list!

I think Jo has some sort of plan to get those gates etc one way or another. Watch your back he is a master at the backdoor

Since ACA owns the leases on the gates how do you propose that JO gets them other than a successful takeover of ACA?

That is actually a pretty good question. I discussed this with a manager that works for UAL at IAD. The directive from above was to utilize acft parking between the C and D gates . Then it hit me...they've been doing this for months now with ARW and now SKW in the coming months.

I do not know how many gates that might represent but it is significant enough to make me believe that the majority of flying can be covered pretty fast.

Just an interesting observation.
