Title 10 is federal, Title 32 is state (ANG/ ARNG). There are beaucoup ramifications to that in everything from pay, promotions, to retirement.

Not to hijack the thread but what orders are guardsman on during AMS, UPT, IFF and all the other training? Title 10 or 32.

You will be on active duty orders, hence Title 10.

Differences from day to day, not much, you get paid the same. The problems arise when someone needs to be disciplined. Title 32 can't discipline a Title 10, they would have to be in the same status. When you fly operational missions you need to be on Title 10 orders, rules of armed conflict.

Actually you will be on title 32 when you attend IFT, AMS then on to UPT. Once you get back to your respective Unit any operational mission will require title 10.
