It is a trend that I have been observing for some time now, everybody wants a tip for just doing their job. I guess we pay about $150 at Jet Aviation in TEB to have 2.5 gallons of blue water drained and replaced. You expect a tip for this, and a tip for the girl that brings us the coffee, papers, ice and catering (I guess we pay around $200 for this, plus another $500 for the overpriced catering). And you all want a tip to boot, just for doing your jobs? Come on now, doesn't Jet Aviation pay you more than the $2.00 dollars an hour that a waiter gets?
Hear, hear. The only positions that I can think of in aviation that are tip-oriented are porter and cab/van driver. If you get a tip in any other capacity, it's just a bonus.

Based on your description of the work you've done, you're doing a great job. Keep it up. But don't do it because you expect a tip. Do it because you have a great attitude and work ethic...and self-respect.

Don't worry about bursting my bubble, it's been burst for a long time. Like I said, I don't expect a tip, but sometimes I feel like I've earned it.

Anyway, whats with the $2 bills that Netjets pilots always have? I've gotten so many from those guys, I'm wondering if there is a printing press back in Columbus.

$2 bucks cheap bastards......I tip $5 to $10 min for everything and yes NetJets pays us back. Even if they did not anyone doing a lav gets money! :D

Whinners!!!

Phfft,
Servicing a LAV....big frigg'n deal....2 bucks, 5 bucks, 20 bucks...whatever!

Try doing it for free!
Oh, better yet, how about having a LAV that leaves a preloaded chute everytime and then fixing it. Just glad to have a job here.

Try moving up to a repair station....see how much frigg'n much grattitude you get from a crew.

Do you think they will flip you a 20 when you find a FOD'd engine that they had no idea there was a problem? nope

Or, how about dropping everything you had planned for the weekend to work 10/14 hour days to have their plane ready for a 7am departure on Monday, that ought be worth a block or cheese for my time (wine)...nope.

I'll dump a LAV just to let the guys that work for me know that I am not beyond such a lowly duty.

If I were you, I would not say anything about how much some crew gives you for being a good line boy, just put it in your pocket and walk away and be glad you work on the line.

Like I said in my first post, I don't expect tips, but its nice to get them when I go the extra mile.

OK, you don't get tips for being an A&P, but I bet you make a hell of a lot more money than I do, even with tips included.
