About a month ago, I was in a debate with a controler working the NYC airspace. The argument became heated, and, eventually, very heated. During a pause, another pilot keyed his mike and made a "meowing cat" sound over the radio; much like the Seinfeld episode; poking fun at our argument.
PLEASE, FOLKS: There is a right time and a wrong time for joking on the radio. If you hear tones in voices that are almost hostile, or phone numbers are being asked for, as well as instructions to place calls after you land, this isn't a good time to help make things worse. It may be best for you to continue your flight with out increasing another's pulse rate.
I like jokes as much as everyone, but we need to realize when and where are they not appropriate.
Thank you.

Hmm...well I don't know the whole story here, so forgive me if I'm wrong, but it seems here there is plenty of unprofessionalism going on here with you and controller arguing with eachother, and as you describe becoming "hostile". Besides, sometimes a humorous insight is helpful in diffusing the situation. Just my 2 cents.

becoming hostile over the radio? what a bonehead. just shut up and taxi in. no one wants to hear you.

What the heck are you doing getting into an argument with a controller in the NYC airspace in the first place??????

Heheheh, I don't think this was quite the response that ol' captain4242 was hoping for, but it's right on the money.

I got robbed of two hours of my life by one of these "gotta call the supe on the phone and argue about the guy with intials such and such" corporate pilots that I was riding shotgun with one day. Nahhhh, we could have been off the clock at 2:30 pm for a change, but this knob had to get on the phone and whine to ATC for two hours. It was like if he didn't do this, he'd get hosed out of having a contract co-pilot for the full daily rate or something.

I think what's happened, is that although there's plenty of left lane left in the world for these guys to drive in while doing exactly one mile under the speed limit next to a semi-truck with 50 angry cars gridlocked behind them forever, it just simply just isn't enough for them. That's what I think.
