Flying gets boring after a while. Sitting for long hours in a plane, hotel or terminal in a stuffy outfit gets tiring.

Some won't realize this until it happens years later.

Remember, no matter what you do, it will eventually become a job.

Change can be pretty neat.

Someone answer this for me. Theres a few guys on here who left the industry all together and say they love life so much better now, then why are you still visiting aviation forums? Is it because you have some regrets about leaving and this is the way you fill the void? I used to work construction before flying I am so happy to never have to do that job again I dont even think about it much less visit construction web pages.

Just because construction sucks doesn't mean that the airlines don't suck....

Ok Ratherbeflyen - I'll be happy to answer that one. Just because you leave the business of flying doesn't mean you leave your interest in aviation or interest in what goes on within the industry. You basically answered your own question. I left a dead end aviation job to assist my family in a business. I for one would certainly go back to aviation if I found a position that paid reasonably well and offered some chance of advancement. A year of being out certainly has changed my perspective on that. Aviation though - always liked it, always will, but I won't work for peanuts and have basically no life again.

I used to sell ball bearings at one time - I can assure you, I don't visit any ball bearing sales chat boards. I think aviation strikes a different chord in most of us than more mundane jobs.

Ball Bearingchat room?

Is there a ball bearing room?

Good question - given the Web I'm sure there's something somewhere that touches on the issue. Let me tell you, supplying aviation manufacturers with bearings and races was not easy. We had surplus inventory and needed a full documented history on it back to the manufacturer before anyone could use it in an aircraft component. It very much makes you appreciate what goes into an aircraft.

Thanks for the honest reply. That was my point I guess.

To the original poster I know around 7 guys who quit this career and of those 6 of them would give almost anything to be back in the cockpit, but cant afford it. Sure theres room for improvement but I can't name one, reasonable, job thats better. (Better not more money.)

flyen you have killer work ethic and that is very respectable. I am getting out of aviation not because of work ethic (flying is easy and fun) the schedules suck and they are destroying my family life.

I still hang out on these boards because I still love flying even though i don't like flying the line. I have wanted to fly since i could crawl with an airplane in my hand, but i care deeply about my family and want to be around them more.

So i am giving up my dream because life offers alot more than a well flown ILS followed by reduced rest.

He neglected his duties and what happend. 3000 americans died in one day, then another 3000+(and counting) in the war. And with all the intelligence and war making capability in the free world, he couldent find the one guy that started the fight.
Biggest dumbas$ comment on this board I have seen in a long time. If Kerry were elected, 9/11 and the result would have been different? Dumba$s.

That was actually my quote, prior to 911 Kerry wasn't running. Im not saying the republicans are wrong, im not saying the dems are wrong, im saying bush and his clan are war profiteers.....

Kerry was a do uch. Career politician..... all i am saying is that we need a republican or democrat that has the ability to lead and avoid pointless wars

You are the reason for the electoral college. congrats.

I should clear things up. I am pro choice, i am ok gay marriage (not gay) pro firearms +1, i don't like taxes, i like small government, i believe that programs that help the poor are good.

I hate the patriot bill, I don't like G.W.Bush but i liked Regan. I think afghanistan was a good war, but Iraq was a waste of money and resources.

I like unions because they offer a large cross section of the American public to make a decent living, I hate the Clinton's.

I love America and (hate people like the bushes' and Clinton's that are causing damage to our country)

I don't believe we can make universal health care work, but we should have legislation to make insurance companies pay out for legitimate claims.....that's it...i guess i am a moron
