We have done that a number of times, I am so glad to be involved in doing this. A couple years ago I had a WWII B-17 pilot in the cockpit put him at the controls, he got a grin on his face, he still had the touch. Suddenly he is tapping me on the shoulder saying he has to get out of the seat. His eyes are watering and his face is red. After we land I asked him what happened. He says "It all came back, the smells, the feelings, and I looked over your shoulder and I saw my top turret gunner, dead hanging from his turret, blood all over the cockpit. I had not thought about that for 65 years”. Many of these guys have sequestered these memories for decades, because of the horror.
