I've heard the saying that if you're in this industry long enough, it's only a matter of time before you lose someone close in an accident. Well, I guess it's my turn.

We lost a fellow aviator last night shortly after 9pm just south of KCBF. The weather was bad last night, but as we all know, it's nothing but pure speculation right now as to the cause. I guess I just wanted to vent for a minute. Once the names get released to the public, I guess I'll talk more.

I would like to take a moment and thank the media-whore flight instructor from the Omaha Flight Center, with all the twin-cessna training he does in a Dutchess, for doing that baseless and speculative interview with Channel 6 - bravo, you're a true professional.

wtrav8r, thanks for posting the link - didn't think of that. To clarify my frustration with the CFI, his interview was on the 5pm broadcast. I'm sure it will be replayed at 10. FWIW - Channel 7 was able to obtain aerial footage of the site. I'm sure that will be replayed at 10 as well. This blows.

I just saw the CFI talk on the website. All he really said was that Cessnas were safe, the wind was blowing and the viz may have been low. Other than that, he didn't give any reasons for the crash.
