Mod NOte: Clearly this thread had something to do with the majors, however it is gone down hi ever since, just like the 73 in this thread...

Some on has to pull it out of a dive.. and get this back on topic.. otherwise its moved to non aviation chat.. the political side of this is not aviation related for this section..

Thank you. I will run right out and get BP to conduct its deep-water drilling in a safe manner, I will learn Japanese and advise them how to build a safe nuclear power plant. I'm sure they will listen to me. After all, I am one person.

You may want to take note of the add above stating American Eagle is hiring since our big gov't energy policy and regulation may soon have it's way with your job.

You must be referring to the "big gov't energy policy" that was negotiated behind closed doors between Cheney and his Big Oil buddies during the Bush administration. Epitomy of corruption.

76% of government expenditures (in order of dollars spent):
1 Social Security
2 Military
3 Welfare/Unemployment
4 Medicare
5 Medicaid

You are falling into the bureaucrat trap. They tell you the necessary organizations will be shuttered if you want smaller government, when the real savings are to be had by shuttering bloated programs that pols use to buy reelection. Increase funding for flight safety and take double the amount from the DoD and Welfare! Problem solved and government shrunk. Don't let the pols lie to you.

Hmmm, let's see...

Paul Ryan and his simplistic Republican House friends want to end Medicare as we know it, amongst other draconian cuts, which would result in a $3.4 Trillion deficit reduction. But...he turns around and gives $3.3 Trillion in additional tax cuts to the Rich and Corporations...his puppet masters. Yet I'm supposed to pay for this!? The backlash over this is 2012 will sink the Republican Party. Good riddence to the anti-labor, anti-middle class, pro-corporate Koch Bros. bought and paid for stooges.

The Republican talking points all sound great - smaller government, lower taxes, etc. However when examined under even minor scrutiny, they fail to pass the test.

For example - The Republicans claim higher taxes equates to oppression and less opportunity to better ones life. However when looking at nations with the highest standard of living, they all happen to be nations with extremely high tax rates as well, such as the Scandinavian countries. How can that be? If the Republican talking points were correct, those countries should have terrible standards of living, not the highest in the world.

Another example - Republicans claim that social welfare programs reduce a persons incentive to work. However many of the nations who have significantly more robust social welfare programs also have unemployment rates that are historically lower than that of the United States. Again, if the Republican talking points were accurate, then those nations could not have significantly lower unemployment rates because people would not want to work.

Those are a couple of examples, there are many more. I will agree that on the surface the Republican talking points sound good. They sound very good in fact. That party has done a great job at selling its ideology. However a little research shows that the very simplistic cause and effect they like to sell has hardly any basis in real word application. The real reasons for unemployment rates, standards of living, quality medical care and such are far more complex than simple buzz words and talking points.

Sorry moderators, I know this is off topic and should probably be sent to the non aviation chat.

The problem is that while the Scandanavian countries have a very high tax rate which pays for medical, college, unemployment benefits and so much more, the middle class U.S. taxpayer pays nearly as much as the Scandanavian taxpayer and gets so little. No?

We pay federal tax, state tax, some pay local tax, then bring in your health care premiums, medicare, social security, and more. Go ahead. Count it up and see what total percentage of your gross paycheck you're paying to some government entity.

Yet we're getting so much less than these Scandanavian countries in return.

You are absolutely correct. And the reason why we are getting so much less in return?
Answer: Because there isn't enough money in the Treasury to give you what you should be getting in return. Reason for that?
Answer: Because it has gone out to pay for tax cuts for the Rich, tax breaks for Corporations, subsidies to the likes of Exxon/Mobile, loopholes for G.E. and to pay for the U.S. to act as policeman to the rest of the world.

Yet Republicans want YOU to shoulder the burden for this in the form of lower or extinct benefits and lower or extinct services so that they can keep their wealthy political contributors (like the Koch Bros., Big Oil, Big Coal, Big Insurance, Big Pharma) in the status quo.

I hear so much talk from the Right about reform this and reform that. Great. Let's start with the Insurance industry. Ohhh, but when it becomes clear that reform is going to come out of the hide of Big Insurance who incidentally, has been raping the American taxpayer for decades, then the Republicans are suddenly against reform. They simply want to reform YOUR standard of living down to the level of India.

That about sums it up.

Sure as hell will never catch me on ANY third world carrier thats for sure. Hell I wouldn't fly on most foreign carriers.

Bingo, nice to see some intelligence in these discussions for once. Usually you just get over-simplistic radio personality parrots.

Yup...the likes of Colgan is much safer...they only have highly qualified and well compensated aviators flying their planes. Or the Gulstream Academy, where FOs pay to fly from the right seat.

Yeah Lufthansa, KLM, British Airways, SAS, Air France, Air Canada, Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Singapore, Thai, Qantas, Air New Zeland, ANA, Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, Qatar, Swiss, and Austrian are all so scary, have terrible safety records and clearly do not live up the level of service we expect from the U.S. carriers.
