"You've had it. Enough with the boring drudgery. You want glamour. We're talking globe-trotting, footlights, camera-snapping glamour -- the jobs that everyone envies. While every job has its good and bad points, let's face it, some are just more glamorous than others. Outplacement firm Challenger, Grey and Christmas suggests these glamorous jobs:

Airline pilot:
Salary: $53,000 - $144,140
Becoming a commercial airline pilot, for some, is a life-long dream. But before you head for the cockpit, you'll need a commercial pilot's license issued by the FAA. This requires at least 250 hours of flight experience.

Commercial and multi-engine pilot training and flight instructor courses can cost from $50,000 to $70,000. Brian, who has flown for two major commercial airlines, started saving to go to commercial flight school when he was 13. He loves his job and says his hours are flexible, allowing plenty of time for family.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), FAA regulations restrict airline pilots from flying more than 100 hours a month or more than 1,000 hours a year. Most fly an average of 75 hours a month and work additional hours performing non-flying duties."

Salary $53,000-$144,140...WOW....Were these before all of the new TA's or after?

The thing is, from the standpoint of that article "the jobs that everyone envies," they're right. I can't go three days without somebody saying how they wished they could have been a pilot. "Glamoous" is a distant stretch, but I bet the Executive Chef is thinking the same thing as he sweats buckets in 120 degree kitchen. "Camera-snapping," heck, my FO even got his picture taken by some womens magazine last month.

Yet that doesn't mean that their envy is rational. I'm sure there are fashion models who live in Kew Gardens, next door to some Eagle crashpad, poor as paupers, hoping to crack into the big time. Similarly, the upper echelons of most of those jobs are a decent deal, but getting there and staying there are a long shot. The article isn't as wildly off-base as some.

At least that salary range is more (or at least closer to), realistic compared some previous news agencies who report we all average about 150-200,000 a year, got to give them credit for that one.

It's still way off considering most of the new jobs are regional jobs and those pay more like between 20,000 - 53,000 a year. I also don't think alot of people are dieing to fly a barbie jet. They don't even like riding on them.

I agree...if you stop and think about it, how many of us would really make it 9-5 every single day? When I drive home from the airport and it is rush hour...I see hundreds of people leaning their cheek on their hand with a flushed look on their face just dog tired from "the grind". ugh....no way I could take that. Nothing to look forward to.

We do work hard being pilots....some harder than others....I wouldn't trade it.

I agree with fr8doginit, i cant count the number of times on the subway going to the airport I see the 'zombies' going to the 9-5 jobs. I have done 9-5 jobs before flying, and it sucks. Yea we make crap money starting out, but still 11 days off a month is more than most people.

Yup, and the dark side of Fashion Modeling is porn, and the dark side of Aviation is PFT. And Gulfstream is the worst low-brow porno of them all. . . . the proverbial "Donkey Show" of the skies.
