fbo on the field.
I used to work at Signature BWI, and they are the only one on the field. Pilots always let me know that we had the worst service and the highest prices, and most of the time I whole heartedly agreed. It does not help that they do not pay enough to get and keep decent people. You have to put in almost 5 years before you break the $10/hour mark. Most people there just don't care at all. It was a common occurance to see a plane taxiing in and have no one move in the line shack (pretty much a break room that faced the ramp). Fuel orders were rarely treated with a sense of urgency. There are several very good ramp agents there that are pretty much running the show, but they have to deal with rampant immaturity that extends up into upper management.
TSA has infected BWI with there ineffective security procedures and their overzealous enforcements. Anyone that has flown into or out of BWI knows that you either have to have a badge, or be escorted by someone that does. The rent-a-cops that police the ramp have no idea how ramp operations work outside of their security bubble. They take it almost as a personal offense when a pilot gets out of the plane and (ghast!!) tries to walk to the FBO just like he has done everywhere else in the county. There is a threat of a personal fine between $3000 and $10000 for repeat and even first time offenders. No NOTAM or prior warning about this BTW. We have had ambulances waiting at the backgate trying to get a patient on board a med flight waiting for over ten minutes while a private security guard looks over their paperwork.
And thats all I have to say about that.
