Apparently DCA ground is not allowed to call the commuter parking "The World" any longer. He told us someone got offended by the term.

How is beyond me.

So he said we are now using "The Projects"

Originally the commuter ramp in DCA was called "the trailer park", from the shorts days. "The world" is/was sort for "commuter world" a sanitized version of trailer park.

I hear the "north line" in CLT being referred to as "the poverty line".

I flew with PDT Captain who wouldn't let me call it the World on the radio...

"We're pilots...we shouldn't denigrate ourselves."

"Bud, my W-2 does that already."

The taxilane between concourses A&B (regional gates) in MSP used to be called "the drive through" years ago. I had heard that because some sensitive type got offended they had to stop using it.

Old news there is a post on here from two years ago about the world

It goes back even further than that. Back in 2002 we got a note from the Chief Pilot that we were to no longer use the term "commuter world" or "trailer park" in ATC communcations at DCA. Like so many edicts that originate in SBY, it was generally ignored.

I imagine that the current terminology will prove equally difficult to kill.
