We're the highest-paid narrow-body (jet) pilots in the free world," he said. "I wish we could beat our chests and say SWAPA did that, but it's only because events ... brought everyone else down below us."

SWAPA UNION LEADER

Sorry I copied this from another thread.

Almost nobody has a defined pension anymore buddy. This is a thing of the past. The legacy pilots voted to piss it away.

I've had numerous United/US Air pilots in my jumpseat that hope the Age 65 thing pass due to the struggles it's caused them.

Stop the pointing at SWAPA. Instead try to learn from a successful airline and management.

Your right, however SWAPA was the only official group that was actually lobbying to change the rule. SWAPA used membership money to actively support the age 65 change.

This a a true statement, it was voted on and passed by the membership. We have LOTS of Military folks here that affected the vote. "this is the greatest retirement job out there" they like to say/point out - wish I had a $1 for everytime I heard that. Not to mention, lots of idiots do not vote.

These are the same folks that DO NOT want a raise. They are most of our problem here, the company will look to these folks to get the 51% on any TA. Thankfully, our BOD is a good one.

SWAPA was not the only group.... they had help. Its gonna change, everybody knows that...its just when. Alpa is on board now, they see the writting on the wall.

SWAPA UNION LEADER

He was just being nice. WE RULE. We invented flying, the 737, the quick turn and 1-2-3.

So if and when management comes to us and asks us for a paycut than I guess we can thank you for lowering the bar.

Seems like it is ok for you to bash (and blame) SWA for the low fares and YOUR lower pay. Last time I checked your pilot group accepted the pay cuts

Take some responsibility and stop blaming SWA for something your union accepted.

How does that saying go...when you point your finger at someone you have four pointing back at you.

If thats the case. Why don't you guys man up and be the leaders in the profession rather than the followers.

.

We are the leading union, we regularly have reps from other unions visit us and explain how they would like the same relationship with thier company that SWAPA has with SWA.

I submit our work rules are top shelf, pay, benefits, duty day, duty rig, accomodations, vacation, etc. SWAPA did that.

We let SWA do what it does best, run the airline. Something a few other unions have failed to realize...

Your right you have one of the best contracts in the industry. However you were lagging on September 10, 2001. You weren't leaders you were followers and ended up with a nice contract in comparison to what everyone else currently has.

You have great management that has kept your airline profitable through the last 6 years and that has kept them from coming to you for concessions.

We'll see where the legacy unions are over the next few years as the post 9/11 contracts become amendable. The American, UAL, CAL and DAL pilots have stepped up in the past, we'll see if they do again.

You weren't leaders you were followers--->SWA was only doing it's own thing...and not following any legacy like...no inefficient hubs ( acft doing nothing for upwards of an hour or more), no employee tribalism, no hiring just to furlough or "training float", no RJ's, no "revolving door" CEO office where the company direction changes like the wind, no demoralized employees, employees that are excited about coming to work...not stuff that the lagacy carriers know about.

Right, legacy pilots will demand it all back and put their airline over-priced and in BK yet again. Then SWA will once again have an even more incredible advantage over the rest.

And the cycle continues....
