Although I agree we're living in dangerous times, I think the threat from ManPADS is relatively small. The average airline pilot probably have better odds of getting a hummer from Mary Schiavo than of getting killed by a Stinger.

Also, don't forget the Stinger and its cousins were intended for use against relatively small, "tightly packed" combat aircraft. A 757 attacked by one of these things might lose an engine, but we're trained to handle that, right?

In all fairness, though, the Stinger doesn't kick like that. It will singe your eyebrows, though...
 
Yea...that thing in the video looks more like a projectile, than a missile. I would think it's for anti tank or anti personel use, rather than against aircraft.
