Ok, I really need to some F-A-S-T help here, I have exhausted all my contacts and still come up with a bad answer to Non-Rev home and to work out of MCO.... I am told forget about it....it could take 6 hours to do or worse you wont get out at all!

I realize MCO is home to the attractions.....

I realize that JB just opened a new training facility there as well....

All these factors make MCO what is today, the Non Rev Monster...

So how do you folks from MCO do it, is there some secret way? I am a dispatcher as most here knows, after 9-11 and the advent of the CASS most of us are locked out of flight decks but our own company....

My company does not fly here, any suggestions, real answers and help would be appreciated, its not looking good for this great new job....and it starts soon...

thanks in advance,

(go ahead Homerdispatch, fire away....I know you wont be able to resist this topic)

What about DAB, TPA and MLB as options? I know these are not as convenient, but with summer approaching and schools letting out, we all know what the loads will look like to MCO.

Sun Country is very generous with their non-rev and cabin "jumpseat" options. Try them.

Destinations are limited (MSP only, I think) but you may be able to get out of MSP easier than MCO.

Where are you trying to get to?

On a lighter side, a good friend of mine always says to me (in regards to non-revving)..." 'Spinn', Sometimes you need to go north, in order to go south, and you need to go west, in order to go east."

Of course, he's been known to go through SEA in order to get from IAD to MSP

www.flyi.com

Independence takes unlimited jumpseaters. 4 flights/day to IAD and some non-stops to some smaller Southern cities.

Take advantage while we're still around.

Well the cats out of the bag

Right Now I am trying to go to JFK....this my problem with the jet Blue training comment....

I have looked at DAB, MLB, TPA, GNV, SRQ.....all of it is a long drive for a few flights in areas where alot of senior pilots live and will bump my tail right off the plane.....MCO has the quantity of flights, but the Loads are just nuts...

I need to hear from a SWA folks as well...for commuting as well...

thanks

From 10 years of first hand experience..........

Commuting off line, to or from the state of FL, is a major PIA, and it has been for years. I reckon that about half of the airline pilots in the US live in FL!

Commuting on your own airline is usually better, but not much........

I now drive 3 hours each way, and it is far less butt pain than commuting on an airplane was on the best day.

YMMV

I commuted out of MCO for 10 years and it has always been a PITA. After 9/11 and the loss of the UA & DL jumpseats when we "went our on way" it became downright impossible off line.

I gave up and moved to another FL city and have the ability to JS online and it is still a struggle with full flights etc...

Having said that, give us a try at FlyI. Gates 41 & 43 in MCO. We are very liberal with the cabin JS passes. Even UAL pilots are welcome (really)!

MCO-IAD shouldn't be too bad, but IAD-JFK is all RJ and really full. Good Luck....

FDX jumpseat on MD10/11 should be available for some of you now. We also fly out of TPA, MIA, and JAX. Some flights go to EWR or IND, so you won't necessarily have to pass through MEM. UPS may also be available now--I'll defer to the Brown experts on that one.

My latest option...for sale...1962 Rangemaster. 5 rooms w/view. Get's to grandma's in 1.8 hours, to in-laws in 2.0, to MEM in 2.5. Cost...quite a bit more than the the obligatory non-rev cookies. Benefit...priceless. Go when you want (watch the wx!), leave when you want (watch the wx!), but your attitude when you roll into your hub is completely different. Make going to work part of the joy of your life, not a burden.

Rangemaster will make MCO-JFK in 6.1 hours with IFR reserves. Better yet, buy 3 in a club with 5-6 commuter pilots and share costs and pool rides. You could have 2-3 flights going both ways each week at a reasonable price. See Navion Society for details on plane. If you just have to go faster, you could do the same thing with Comanches or Bonanzas. I like the low cost of the Navion for the performance and the ruggedness and STOL characteristics, but other older planes with good club support can be found at relative bargains too.

My rangemaster is currently on the market. You can buy it for 2.7 million dollars. If you want a nice one you can find one (that isn't mine) for 70-90k. Whatever you get...get a good pre-buy.

Advance info on actual Passenger Loads

Thanks for all the reply's uunfortunately I am stuck with MCO DAB MLB to commute from.

One of the main problems for anyone trying to commute is the 4 hour rush from gate to gate seeing if we can get on a flight..I know we have the NON-REV nework and Passrider web sites to pull up and print out all the flights between city pairs, but we dont have the ability to see which flights are really full and forget about it verses the flight we really have a chance on.

Are we stuck with the airport run-around going around bothering already busy gate agents? Does anyone have a better way short of calling every airline?

Maybe someone from F9 or DAL/ASA can comment on the loads out of ATL to JFK...I might be able to run out of DAB/MLB to ATL.. Just a thought..

come on, now bring on the creative ideas....

OK, here's a creative idea. Try DL Song for 5 nonstops, most timed head to head with B6. If you strike out there and the ususal DL hub connections in ATL and CVG, head down to gate 60 and the Delta Connection flights. All are operated by CHQ or CMR, and will take unlimited jumpseaters. While not published as connections, the timing works well for going through GSO and RDU and connecting to a flight to JFK. That's all on the DLC carriers, you may find even more by looking at citties with AEagle or other service into JFK. Good luck..

..CT

I commute every week out MCO and TPA. It is actually not that bad. I have been doing this for quite a while. But then again I am going to MKE and not JFK. Go ahead and try to hop on B6 or DL, they are the easiest from JFK.

SYX328

I commuted from MCO to CLE for a year and a half and never missed a trip. I could ride in the cockpit on CAL and that saved me about 40% of the time. Stressful, and didn't make it home a few times when I only had a short time to do it. So I moved.

Not true.... Most airlines will accept an off-line dispatchers. Done it on numerous carriers, numerous times.

Only a couple that wont.

No problem chperplt.....I found that most pilots are unaware offline dispatchers can catch a ride. When they check the FOM, most are suprised to see Dispatch there.

Thanks to all the crews that take time to verify and get us where we need to go.

SO who does not take DX

Homer , you are talking about geting a seat in the back right? I was wondering who you have run into that will not take Off line DX, it could save me some time for sure...

Thanks for shareing your experiences.

Anyone here have any commuting experience from MCO to CMH? I'm going to start that commute this summer. Just curious as to how the loads are and if it is a fairly easy or difficult commute. Any info would be helpful.

I can only tell you from experience, that the real problem is GETTING INTO MCO....getting ou can be challenging, but you can usually get out in the very first flight of the morning, or the late ones...

Good luck, I can speal of doing the CHM run.

AAY starting service from SFB

CMH isn't one of the destinations, but it is the type of city we would fly to.

Check our scheduled flights at www.allegiantair.com

Good luck,

Jeff

PS: I will be commuting between BWI and MCO and then driving to SFB.

Funny you mentioned them, it's really a whole other story in it self on Allegiant, I was asked to come back out for a second interview( at my cost), which is not cheap to buy, already purchased the Tickets and then the company calls me to say they rehired the guy that left and now they did not have a job for me to interview for.....This just happened this week.....Like I said a whole nother story....if its any consolation the SOC mgr said he was going to "try to have my costs paid for by the company since he said I was really getting screwed in the deal". We will see if I ever hear from them again, but I regress, The Allegiant business model is strickly to support the cities in the midwest, to LAS and to SFB and back...Via a casino contract in LAS and I believe a vaction group for the SFB runs, anyway the people in LAS dont even know who Allegiant is.....There schedules do not overlap time wise so you could say go SFB-PIA-LAS..no good. If I worked for them, I was going to have to offline J/S to MCO...
Thes guys dont even get close to the North east...but thanks for the post...

Here is an idea- Hope on Southwest to ISP(Islip) in Long Island. It's about a 45 min drive to JFK with no traffic, traffic about 1hr to 1.5 hr drive. They have a bunch of nonstop flights a day into and out of MCO. Other than that- good luck. MCO can be very challenging at times , and you difinatley have to be creative. I sometimes went to MIA first on Gulfstream or AA and then Northbound. Consider that too. Good Luck. :)

How is to/from MLB to ATL to TYS? Are those flights generally a pain?

I have been fearful to go to MLB although it is the closest place to where my kids are. I normally go to MCO and rent a car. I have had no problem commuting to/from TYS to CLT to MCO on USAir but would like to try DL to/from TYS to MLB through ATL.

Any suggestions?
