Boeing has been known, since at least the 60s, as the "Lazy B", as in a cattle "brand". It was considered Country Club, Gentleman's Ranch employment. Not high stress, good pay, respected work.

Now, maybe more of the negative implication of not so inclined to work. Not my thoughts, just seems to be anecdotal in some of the media stories.
